Re: quality parts manufacturers

Post by ZsZ »

Hi, is there any info on the quality of Graf/Metelli water pumps nowadays. They used to be OEM for italian brands. I am a bit low on funds and here it is less than half the price of other big names like INA or the KS/Pierburg that BW has in stock.

From the pics I can find, the impeller is pressed sheet metal and it has paper gasket in the kit.

Before I had Starline for around 10 years but now it is a bit noisy.
Thanks!

Thanks.
On the end I got an even cheaper (possibly chinese made) Denckermann branded one locally for around a tenner.
I will see how it will hold.

Any info on Febi brake disc quality?
They are about the cheapest at a local parts store. About 2/3 to 3/4 price of the big brands.
They are listed as coated like ATE or Zimmermann.

My last "noname" italian discs were good for ~200k kms and 15 yrs, but they are around the wear limit now.

I probably will stick with TRW pads as they seem to grip without big dust clouds.

I am not sure about brake discs, but I have bought a fair few Febi items over the past ten years,
for both my van and also my 30 year old Vauxhall Cavalier.

Sadly Febi quality is nowhere near as good as it was ten years ago -
Recently I have had dash switches (from reputable suppliers) breaking-up when being installed new, to other parts simply not lasting anywhere near as long as you would expect.
1983 Tin Top with a poorly DF and 4 speed DT box.
1987 Electrics and a DJ engine.
Maybe one day I might get it finished

Thanks Robsey,
I know the quality is on downgrade - as with everything else - and they are mostly a boxing company.
They had some fine stuff before, but I am also unfamiliar with brake parts from them.
I hope somebody was brave enough to buy them before :)

If they buy them from the same manufacturing firm that other brands do then they should be fine.
And I think brake parts are somewhat proper from every brand - nobody wants a big lawsuit after some accidents, so nobody risks selling crap.

On the end I bought TRW discs and pads.
Discs are made in China, pads are made in Spain.
I also bought FAG bearing kit. The inner rollers are made in China, the outers are made here in Hungary.

To support a point made early on but I didn't spot early enough here's a GSF slave cylinder after 18 months/about 2500 miles. I'm replacing with a Forst from Heritage, hope I don't have to update in the same time frame. Image

The rubber seems thicker and it has wire clamps which the GSF did not have. On the plus side it only took half hour for me to replace and bleed because doing it last time is still a recent memory.

You can buy rebuild kits made in spain or italy, that have good rubber.
(ERT, Autorfren, Frenkit)
It worth to swap the bellow or even the seal too on a non-rusted cylinder.
