Measure the maximum angle in both directions for the two different types of joints, in degrees of articulation available.
Meyle HDs have more articulation at full travel, plus a beefier casting.
The Febi boots are much nicer.

The difference in maximum angle results from difference in internal construction. In this thread you find some pics without boots, which shows the origin of the differences:
http://www.ig-syncro16.de/forum/index.p ... ic&t=11910" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In the thread it is said, that the OEM VW joints have the best maximum angle, second best is Lemförder, third is Meyle (close to Lemförder) and worst is Febi.

If Stuart@syncrohospital does these and makes a living doing stuff like this and he has them tried and tested why don't people just get them from him rather than keep waiting for other peoples ideas to be ripped off for the same price
I don't get it...

Well, for me it would be Courier/Postage cost and Import Tax that puts me off.....and im in a bit of a hurry...
They would work out quite expensive once you add that together wouldn't they?

Dunno, group buy maybe? You know what South Africans are like for making a few bob, I am sure Stuart could advise on a more attractive means of import.

As for the rip-off, is there a patent being infringed here? Didn't think so...

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
I can't let that go mate.
Do you honestly think that it is possible to make something like this part, to the tolerances required, from a photo??? I might be good but I'm not a magician
I only went ahead with this once Brickwerks had said that they had shelved the project and were no longer interested, because Simon wasn't happy with certain elements of the design.
Mine will not be a direct rip-off of SyncroHospital's, the outside contour will be different and the quality control will be a lot better than the offerings that come out of SA. There's nothing wrong with the design, but the execution is quite frankly poor. The sample pair I was sent from the last SH batch aren't even a matching pair!
One looks like it was made by a man who knew what he was doing, the other by the shop boy who heard about it and fancied having a go after hours...I have seen this "quality" of work coming out of SA before, supposedly remanufactured engineered parts for pre-war Jaguar cars worth upwards of £350k and they look like they've been knocked up by a farmers blacksmith...
No offence to SyncroHospital intended
PS do people still want these things or not? Enough time wasted.

#sigh#
A pattern is the next best thing after an engineering drawing to BS 303, assuming it's been made reasonably well in the first place...
I take it you'll be ordering yours from Syncro Hospital then?

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
go for it. british economy needs every penny it can get. the damage to the SA sales will be marginal i recon. i`d not spend over the odds for spacers from overseas but if they were uk made and available then i`d probally have a set for the doka. no sales lost to stuart there only a gained sale to uk.
now if you plan on selling to SA thats another think.

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
I'm not overly bothered where they come from, I just want a set of well made ball joint spacers. Ideally within the next week and a half so they can be fitted while rest of my front suspension is in bits.
Let me know when theyre ready Ian and I'll sling some money your way and give you an address to send them to.

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
Same price as Syncrohospital list them - but I don't want paying in ZA Rands
£85 a pair with high tensile bolts and nylocks, Special Delivery, taxes paid.
Since I'm only making 5 pairs to start it's one set each, first come first served (as above) to start with, then I'll run some more.
Cutting metal right now!
