New stretch lining over old?
Want to recover the inside of my leisuredrive hightop, the old 42 years stuff is crumbling . Question is has anyone put the 4 way stretch stuff over the top, Was it successful ?. Don't fancy attempting to strip the existing stuff off. Thanks.

I wouldn't put it over the top, the old stuff just turns to dust as I've done that myself on most of our van. It should be pretty easy to get the old stuff off by hand and with a small scraper.

Unfortunately you'll have to bite the bullet, new carpet won't stick to the crumbly old stuff.

Also the 4way stretch carpet will show all the lumps and bumps of what's its laid onto.
Did mine recently and the old stuff came off easily as did the old glue with a scraper.
Not too hard a job to put the new carpet on, just take your time and use a good quality glue.

Quite often those old glues can be removed with acetone if you have stubborn patches. If you do use it - no sparks, wear gloves as it sucks all the greases from your skin and plenty of ventilation!

Yup, I had to wipe all the old glue off every surface in my old van with cheap thinners. A miserable job.
I had the window open, I was shuffling round for an hour or two and didn't realise how dizzy I was til I stepped out of the van and immediately fell over and got wedged in a hedge.
