gear linkage set up
got up to the van this afternoon to finish a couple of very small jobs and hopefully take it out on is first drive, as dusk was approaching ended up faffing about with the rear lights making them work again. finally everything is ready.
but i could not select reverse nor g, i only have first even when the gate is pressed down and slid over still only getting first and second, makes it very difficult to drive when i have to reverse out of the work shop, i have replaced the rear section of the linkage with a petrol one (original one was diesle). i cant find my bently and i cant rember how to set up the linkage.
has any got a step by step guide as i am so close now and this has to be the final herdal.
thanks all neil

Re: gear linkage set up
I have your Bentely. I can drop it over tomorrow night if you want?
Won't it just be a case of undoing the splined section at the front and moving it a few notches?

Re: gear linkage set up
completely forgot you had the manual. which explains why i could not find it. moving the spline or 2 makes complete sense,
there is a procedure for setting it up from scratch in the manual. as i referred to it in the past.
if you could drop it off that would be grate.
thanks neil

Re: gear linkage set up
iirc, it something like slacken off the spline joint on the linkage, put the gearstick in the 2nd gear position and use something like a bunjee cord to hold it there, then tighten the spline.
I'm sure Aidan will along with the exact process shortly. (i've probably remembered it wrong)

Re: gear linkage set up
Really must sort my linkage out on the pickup...fed up with shouting insults at the gear knob as grind bits off my albins cogs...and then there's the turbo/air raid siren to sort as well...

Used my van last night and first gear selection is getting worse.. Just been under it and the knuckle joint just before the spline really sloppy. Is the kit that brickwerks supply a fix for this ?

No mate there is a kit but now I look again it's the lever kit so not the right end.
Mine has loads of play in the ball joint to the spline on the box end
