well removed the last of the old bit

and started to give the thing a first sand over to remove the crud prior to blasting

good job the deformation panal is made of good thick metal as there are no holes yet so its with luck one less job, typically find Ive run out of grit on a friday teatime, aanyhow get this done this weekend if I find/borrow/beg some then its onto other more interesting areas

Well got some new grit, different grade so tried it on a small area first

glad it works as I got 250kg
treated the inside of the upper front panal , forgot the pickies but the telltale drip of dynax that has bled through the seam should suffice

coated the inside of the repair and made sure it gets inbetween the skins/seams as well as possible



ive coppaslipped the dash securing screws and the wiper screws as it will aid future removal,especially once the screen is in
underside of roof treated, will apply seamseal later

Well,firstly a couple more signs of the accident damage to the centre front

you can just see the split in the original seam,same other side

anyhow, all this bit blasted and planished over

first the vactan

while this is drying , this is the old centre part, im going to cut the rotten bottom off and weld it to the new lower panal

it would be easy to just chop the rotten middle out and sling a bit in and mig it and cover in filler but that somehow defeats the object. the schofield panal is 95% correct but it still takes time to get everything right as I dont like covering work in loads of filler,better to spend time getting it right first and having good metal in the right place

so tommorow will weld it in and seal up and that will be the front as good as done

is the schofield panel structural in any way Mike?
Or is it just a filler

Its not structural in the same way as the chassis and outriggers, and not in the same way as say the A B C posts etc, but it does add to the structural stiffness of the frame in the same way as the rear wing or door skin does, bit like an aeroplane wing, its a skeleton frame which then gains futher stiffness in excess of the fabric or covering being applied/adhered, I suppose the total exceeds the sum of the parts

I know it is good hands kev but it must be quite harsh seeing your pride and joy being cut to pieces...........especially by a northern mad man.

Seeing the mess I've been concealing and and hating for a couple of years now, disappear in a way I never thought possible is wondrous .


Mike treats all repairs the same way, with equal measure, but I can't wait for some of the more "intricate" repairs coming up....and I suspect Mike looking forward to them too
