Eberspacher westfalia d2L

Post by saviogimmi »

Hi all been a long time since I posted!!!
My eber has always worked, until now.

I suspected the pump so removed it and tested by pulsing 12v to it wouldn’t click. So got another pump installed still will not work. I have 12v to the pump but even so if I touch pump connectors I cannot get it to click. If I remove pump and test as before it clicks. What controls the pulse power to the pump, the silver ever box or the controller? What am I not doing?

Ps if I use gravity and put diesel in manually I can get the ever to start and pump hot air!

Silver ECU box l think. Did you take original power supply leads off pump before testing with two alternative wires supplying 12 volts?
Could be ECU has locked out after numerous ( 5 or 10 ) mis-starts.

Sorry.....rereading last bit of your post.... it will fire up if manually feeding diesel to it? How are you doing that? If by using thermostat then ECU cannot be locked. Otherwise it would not go through the cycle.

Furthermore, if an alternative 12 volt supply is added to pump whilst original supply still in place it may damage ECU... according to an instruction book l was reading over the weekend.
When was the last time you used the Eber? Diesel may have gelled inside pump if left for two or three months.
Lastly, once the pump has been disconnected it may take time to purge air from the fuel line

I thought about air in the pump, but its not that the voltage isn’t pulsing so pump is just constantly supplies 12v so gets very hot! I take it it must be the silver box that controls this

I reckon so. Pump is regulated by ECU l think. Constant 12 volts will heat up pump. Or flow of diesel acts as coolant.
Cant offer you any other info apart from its an Eber engineer job

I’m pretty sure I’ve done everything an eber engineer would have done! I’ve even changed the temp controller, so I’m convinced it’s the silver controller under the rear seat, just got to find one!

Oldiebutgoldie on this forum is yer man. But he's gone AWOL just recently. I tried contacting him over weekend with a locked out D1L lm trying to fix. But no response.
Bottom line is the Eberspacher heater automatically locks out after so many attempts.
You didnt mention how you managed fire up with remote reserve of fuel? Did you use thermostat control? If so, heater is not locked out.
Perhaps ECU is not regulating 12 volt pulse to pump. If it is not then it would lock out any attempt to fire? The ECU needs an engineer to check fault codes.

I unbolted the ever put it on the floor put a fuel removed inline pump then put a fuel line straight into eberr with a small amount of diesel, turned it on from controller gravity fed the fuel and it started right up. So it def not locked out

Perhaps pump metering incorrect. Start heater again and check current going to the two wires feeding pump...without pump connected using a multi meter. Intermittent current from the two wires is what you are after after l think. Does your controller have a wheel to control heat? Turning to low should give wider gaps of pulsating current. Turning to high given faster pulses.
Again l think

Is the wiring original to the pump ? The pump should have a constant live with a switching earth to pump , sounds like it’s not pulsing abs just constantly on?

What have you got on the 2 wires ? Green and green/white

What happens if you put a live to one side and touch the earth on and off lots

Remove the wiring first

Yes original wiring, green and green and white. It has always worked all of a sudden it won’t! If I take off one connection and tap like you say the pump pulses so the pump is ok? Can’t work out what is going on
