Dash heater - can't get it off HOT!!
2 hours to go 12 miles - van was getting a bit hot so I slid the heater to hot to take some pressure off and now it slides back and forth but it's only blowing HOT HOT HOT!!
My feet have melted!
I've had a look inside and I can see what the top and bottom levers are attached to but can't see what the middle one should be attached to.
Going in for a service on Monday so could get them to have a look but in the meantime I have a trip to Oxford then on to P'boro tomorrow and back to West London on Sunday.
Even in this rubbish weather it's not gonna be fun driving a sauna.
Any advice?
Thanks
Sarah

Re: Dash heater - can't get it off HOT!!
Hello,
the middle heater slider has a cable which goes down underneath the van and closes a valve in the heater hose - it's a real pain to change if it goes wrong. My bet is the cable has just become disconnected. First of all if you pull off all the heater controls and the fan control, and then gently remove the panel you can see inside if the cable is still connected to the middle slider lever. If it is, then if you remove the spare wheel and have a look up where the heater pipes go, you can get someone to move the slider and see if it's moving the valve. It's one of these:

but remember to keep the metal clip if you do change it.
There are other types of heating control I think - not sure which type you have, but in any case it's a case of finding that cable and checking it's moving properly
Good luck sorting it

Re: Dash heater - can't get it off HOT!!
Thanks Ewen, I took the dash tidy off to have a peer about but couldn't see anything. I think the cable has dropped off as I felt a bit of resistance then nothing.
Was a bit nervous of pulling the slider control fascia panel off but will give it a go now I know what I'm looking for.
Really appreciate your advice.

Pull out the gearstick gaiter and the valve is in the hole at about 1 or 2 o'clock. Just push the lever closed. No need to remove the spare wheel and fumble about underneath.

Ok it's still connected. And the hole under the gear stick gaiter isn't accessible because it's half covered by the metal cowling that's bolted onto the plate.
And the sun is shining brightly!!!
Arg!!
