Radiator Fan Current? Newbie asking!

Post by Piratepete »

Hi Guys
Hope to be moving again - at last!

I've started and run the van a few times over the last couple of months. She always starts first time though doesn't turn over very quickly, but I noticed a marked reluctance to turn over at all if the radiator cooling fan is running.

What current does this fan draw? Is this behaviour typical?

Its a 400W+ motor with 6mm cables. More like you have bad earth return from starter (so higher cranking currents due to increased resistance) and voltage is then dropping off.

Dirty earths, old dirty connections on the starter - battery cables and possibly the actual cable from battery to starter is high resistance ( not hard to replace and well worth the effort )
of coarse it could just be your battery needs a good charge on a mains charger to get it up to a good charge level
( alternators never fully recharge a lead acid battery more than about 80% )
and it could be the olite bushing needs replacing in the bell housing

A coarse battery sounds a bit nasty. I like my batteries smooth.

Thanks Guys
When it stops raining I'll crawl around underneath checking the earth straps.
Cheers!
