Thanks. I quite like the idea of a digital tacho myself, as my speedo is fairly accurate (provided I take the mid point of the bouncing needle!). Been browsing ebay for ages - plenty available for a 68mmx33mm cut-out, but I didn't see any for a 40mm x 25mm cut-out. There are some that are mounted in a bigger package that I might be able to open up and remove the display from.

I may have found a suitable digital tacho - 40.5mm x 24mm bezel, so pretty close.
Does anybody know what the green 'Signal Input' wire would need to connect to on a petrol engine? Would I need to fit a Hall effect sensor somewhere and/or run a wire from the engine bay, or will something behind the dash carry a suitable signal?
*E D I T - I've just found this wiring schematic. Where can I get a 3-5V pulse to feed this tacho? (E D I T again - mine's the early dash without a tacho, in case that's relevant, but of course you knew that, since I'm trying to add a digital tacho )

if yours is a later van, the wires that work the factory tacho are there already. On a diesel it comes from the alternator, on a petrol van i think it comes from the coil?..

Mine's the earlier dash. I'm sure the info is in a Haynes or Bentley wiring diagram though.

Here is my temp gauge fitted btw.
Looks smart. Your LCD meter is better in that location - I suspect the LED might be a bit dazzling at night, so maybe I'll put it on a switch.

As far as I can tell, pin 1 (green) from the coil becomes pin 9 (green) on the 14-pin dash connector. I'll have to have a poke about. It'll be a pleasant surprise if it's there and on that pin - from memory my alternator feed (for the split charge relay trigger) wasn't on the same pin that's described in the wiki (pin 11?), so maybe my 1983 van has a different dashboard connector layout from the later vans.
