Front Headlight Lens Smashed

Post by DeanButler »

Hi.

I was changing my Taifun grill for the standard grill last w/end when the glass lens popped off of the right hand side front headlamp and shattered on the floor. Aaaaaagh! So now I'm looking for a replacement but can seem to find one. I believe the lenses just screw on and off. Anyone got any ideas to make it as cheap but effective as possible?

Picture can be found on my previous post: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=92105" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

My lens came off recently, luckily it was caught by the chrome eyelids I fitted at the request of my other half.....Mine was "glued" in place originally and so I re-fixed it on with some bonding silicon sealant..seems to have done the trick. When I cleaned the reflector of the old sealant there was no sign of a screw thread for the lens.

Yep, I've had a loose headlight glass in the past (they're only stuck on) and used same sealant. That was at least four years ago. Just get a second-hand light rather than hunting for new glass (which I doubt you'll find) and either swap glass or unit.

I believe the cheapest way to do this is to modify a cheap mk1 golf unit. Seem to remember it involved a lot of cursing and swearing though. New lens was 9.50 from euro from memory and you have to change your adjusters etc over. Or for a whole 20 quid more you can buy the right one and fit it in five minutes......

:shock: s/h round lights cheap as chips (see hundreds at events throughout the year and regularly in for sale section), its a five min job just to swap the light or lens. Hardly worth messing about adapting stuff just for a broken lens. They're not exactly rare.

the lenses arent meant to come off!

just old age sealer.

a 2nd hand headlamp is simplest or get down your local breaker and try seperatng any 7 1/2 inch lense to ' glue' back onto your lamp

Thanks all. Now all sorted with a 2nd hand lens glued on. It'll keep me going for a while.
