Hi the bounce is now special 10-50 bouncing needle means 30 so time for a new cable two ?
Do you need to jack it up because my drive a quite a slop (very handy for bleeding coolant system) and its
full high so getting under its not a problem rather not do it in the road
In the Hayes manual it says use rubber sealer on the rubber boot could this be a little bit of silicone
Plus any hints and tips
Cheers

You shouldn't have to jack the vehicle up, there's plenty of room.
Remove the front upper grille- remove the top cover on the instrument display- detatch cable from speedo head- from the front of the vehicle it is easier to get the rubber boot out of the front panel- follow the route of the cable and you will find a couple of eye brackets with 10mm bolts holding them in postion, these are usually rusted up and snap on removal, electricians use a similar eye bracket to affix cables and these are readily available from hardware stores like b&q- once all the fixings are removed remove the passenger hubcap and speedo cable clip- pull the cable through its feed hole.
I find it easier to refit the cable without the grease cap in place and yes you can use silicon but make sure it's a nice and flexible sealant.
And that's about it, sorry for the haynes manual type description, I got a little carried away.

I'll see what I can do. Oh and it helps to put the steering in left hand lock
If there's no oil under it then there's no oil in it.

Re: Speedo cable replacement ?s
Before fitting a new cable make sure the end of the cable is secure in the grease cap(nearside wheel)and more to the point that the opening is still square.
If the opening is worn the cable tends to catch every so often, giving you the jumping needle syndrome.

Lol, yes that is a huge sentence and an even bigger piece of bad luck.
If there's no oil under it then there's no oil in it.
