Paint brands to use in the UK/EU?
Greetings folks,
I am an American expat, living in Iceland. Most of the parts I order tend to be from the UK or Germany, and while there is a ton of great information about what brands of paint to DIY paint your car with back on the US forums, I just don't find any of the same things here. For the most part, products available in the UK are also available here in Iceland. I am looking ideally for paint that I can self-spray with a compressor/paint gun (and a lot of grinding, filling, and sanding of course) to paint my T25 in my front car park. Ideally one that I can get in custom colors, to some extent. I have fallen in love with this god awful green that was on the van when I got it, and I believe it will also be easiest to respray the same color. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Bill

Hi Bill,
Take a look at the post above, should give you a good read. I believe the paint of choice is Rustoleum.

Not all brands are available everywhere and there is the possibility if shipping issues to iceland.
DuPont, Motip, HB Body, Helios, Tetrosyl and Montana are the most common brands here in Hungary for example.
Probably the best solution is to find a local to you body/paint shop and ask for available 2k industrial coatings. They are cheaper than base+clear automotive paints.
It is better to buy everything from the same brand to avoid incompatibilities.

If you’re going the Rustoleum route then my understanding is that you wouldn’t be able to simply spray over it later with 2K or similar. You would need to remove all the Rustoleum beforehand, so that’s something to be mindful of.

Yeah, unfortunately they both only stock a few primary colors and don't tint

That thread was definitely an inspiration! Now I just need to source paint.
