Window Seals with Chrome Trim

Post by keynsham1 »

I have all the glass out of my van as it is being painted. It is a converted panel van so the side window seals are not recessed. I am planning to replace all the window seals. The side window seals are easy enough but i fancy having chrome trim strip in the seal instead of black. No problem there but I am a little confused about the windscreen and tailgate seal. These are standard originals and I have found replacements that will allow fitting the chrome trim but not the chrome trim itself. I believe it is different to the standard chrome trim for generic window seals such as my side ones. My homework suggests the following:

Generic:

Original Windscreen/tailgate seal trim? :

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

the windscreen and tailgate seals have a trim that looks like one on the second pic, but they are flat on the top and not round.
most probably to avoid blinding from sunshine. The round ones are for the OE side window rubbers

Just a word of warning...if you are going for a chrome strip the seal has to be very straight or it looks truly awful.

That's a good point! A wobbly chrome strip would look dreadful! So I think I will stick to black rubber filler strip!

Next question! I have various windows in the van and the high top and the thicknesses of aperture/glass are as follows:

1.6mm/5.0mm, 1.6mm/1.6mm, 4.0mm/3.5mm

The only sizes that seem to be available are

1.6mm/5.0mm, 3.0mm/3.0mm, and 5.0mm/5.0mm that are anywhere close to what I need.

1.6mm/5.0mm is fine of course but will the 3mm/3mm seal 1.6mm/1.6mm and will 5.0mm/5.0mm seal 4.0mm/3.5mm?

Any help or experience again would be greatly appreciated!!
