have a mate who bought a Ferrari yellow split with a porker engine. looked as sweet as a nut, he belt sanded the fantastic paint off and left it like that
Cheers, I'm really pleased with it so far. Hardly any corrosion at all.
I quite fancy a nice new metallic colour, but the Missus is set on the original Nutria (brown!).
Looking good there batman!! Who are you using to do the work mate as I'm pretty local to you and its always good to have a well recommended bodyshop close-by?!
Hi Justin,
The place is called TD coachworks, they are on the one way system at the bottom of Orpington High street. They have done a few bits and prices for me on my work motor and my wife's polo. I've been really happy with everything they have done, quite reasonable prices too. I will post more pics as it progresses.
I'll keep my eye out for your van too

I stopped off and had a look at the van today, he used 4 inch paint stripping discs to get most of the paint off, and the fiddly bits by hand. Not much progress since last week. Will get some pics up when it's in primer.
Vans in primer now, took a few pictures earlier today.
Bloke painting it says he can't get the old colour, (which I didn't want anyway, the Missus did) so we have to pic a shiny new one!
If he takes the side rails, filler surround, wiper spindles, side vent etc out he can hit them better. That vent on the side needs to come off to look for rot and get some paint on it. Lower chin spoiler needs to come off to get some good paint on the front. Due to position its going to be a 'high risk' area for want of a better description and needs a good investigation.
For future reference any paint shop will be able to mix any vdub colour just from the code on dash sticker. If yours didn't have one then vw paint chart from that year would give the code. Paint codes don't go obsolete.
Aye and the door lock button and its grommet are still fitted to be fair though it may be awaiting removal as it would seem a shame after going to this trouble to then mask stuff off and thence give a nice edge for it to peel away in short order.
mm
He's not doing the shuts, the colours we have in mind (probably Irishgruen C6Y) aren't hugely different from the original. So hopefully won't look too odd.
There are more bits and pieces to come off yet. On the whole I'm really pleased!

Cheers! Will pass that on when I'm down there next.
