Good work there Mike. I had the same "eye treatment" a couple of years ago. A small bit of wood enmbedded itself in my eye..the one thing I remember is the sensation of the eye numbing drops.... it was a great feeling!
Grit blasters are great, but yeah, they make a hell of a mess....

Mike,

this is the best teaching thread I've seen, we don't mind if you want to find some more areas needing your attention! You seem to take great pleasure in making things good again which is both impressive to watch but also encouraging me to take time to do bodywork carefully. Thanks. Tim

Yep, eye drops are weord, the feeling of relief was best, 25kg of grit makes mess..

Ta Tim

Well started of with a bit of leading, this is the lead going on, sometimes put it on and make good as you go other times put it on and make good when its all on.
Image
Shouldnt really use an angle grinder but I get lazy now and then
Image
might need a very fine skim of filler and jobs a good one
after vactan and all the other stuff have sprayed self etch into the seams which penetrated through to the inside so thats good, will now do the seams with 3M seam sealer
Image
and
Image
The usual problem of sliding doors dropping and either not latching or other problems are often due to this
Image
As thew door just about closes it drops so have welded this up
Image
The van has had some recent bodywork (known) and they have masked off the stickon stripes! so am also stripping the front 1/4's, found filler ontop of paint plus some weird paint on the very lower part so best off with it all
Image
Somebody on here asked about removing the slider guide to repair whats behind it, well in this picky you can see the spotwelds highlighted, drill these out , no problem but for alignment drill a couple of holes one at the front where Ive made a cross and one at the rear, this way providing this metal is still there after your repair :rofl holes and hence slider rail will line up nice.

Well not the most pleasant of jobs but several hours spent applying seam sealer
Image
and
Image
This van had mudflaps fitted, now if you ever fit or have fitted replacement arches check that theres enough 'meat' to fix the flaps to, Ive added some in 20g so they should get a good hold, will run the grinder over the welds
Image
On to the tailgate , not a lot to do but am stripping it as it was whith and when hot gunning the stripes off the paint started to come of as well
Image
factory paint is ok but dont know what this stuff is so rather than have a possible reaction I caused my own
Image
had to do a close up as I think if I gave it a posh title and gave myself a stupid name it could be in line for the 'tate' and maybe the 'turner' :rofl
Image
Got the slider bottom to do tommorow and cut the hole out for the glass then its chuck some paint on it.

Might blow it up and frame it :rofl

Well today was an early start, 07.00 ! well early for me. day progressed well but still keep finding stuff. stripped the tailgate and noticed a very tiny spot under all the paint so sanded back and found 2 small holes, I m sort of suppriused as this really did look a mint panal and in fairness the rest of it is perfect, decided to put a spot of weld on the larger hole and leaded both up so should last
Image
and sanded off, so no filler round the lock :D
Image
Slider outer skin arrived from schofields (good gauge of steel so nice to use and it fits!, this pick shows the rear bottom with the seam sanded of so its split and just drops of
Image
this is the rear showing where I cut the lower part of (0.5 flexi cutiing disc) I have drilled the door so will spot through to the new skin, less mess on the outer side
Image
this is showing it with the welding done at the rear, the 3 spot holes at each end are because I cant get at the rear here.
Image
welded and sanded over
Image
inside
Image
taped it up and brushed some sealer over,
I did make a new bottom for the inner, just the very lower 3/4" and lip , this I welded on on the inside , not worth fitting a complete inner, trouble is I tacked the skin on and forgot to take a picky
Image
So back to it after this delay first thinng early

Great stuff Mike 8) 8)

The start of all this was a little hole in the wheel arch, just above the n/s/r jack point that the MOT bloke found and believe it or not that was all he picked it up on  Just let me off with a verbal and "get it sorted"
He will not believe his eyes when I pull into the bay this year :rofl Looking forward to it really
Thanks mate I certainly appreciate you taking the time to get it all straight :ok

Well it was a little bit more than that wasnt it? or was it. its always difficult deciding where to stop, cost notwithstanding it would seem churlish to not do a certain thing knowing that it would either be a pig or nigh on impossible to do at a later date without grave upset !
Slider skin was real good metal dead happy with it, Ive kept some of the larger more pertinent bits of scrap for you to pass on to your testing mate :rofl talk later as Im not home tonight
cheers mike

Well forgot the camera got the odd one with the miserable phone,
All the glass out the quick way, all 8 windows cut ..
Image
got the ladder staging out and busy da-ing the lot roof first
Image
got a repair to do on the door tommorow, will post up picks of that being done as its fun ! but for now its boring, mundane rubbing down and prepping, and will be painting soon enough.
Image
these are the new seals for the side windows also picked up some more of these offcuts, they make brilliant floor mats and when you drop small things off the bench they fall into these holes :D

Well busy again, had to put this into service
Image
there was previouse damage to the slider and the o/s door which had been badly hammered then filled so this is with the single pick
Image
just to ease out the crease in the slider.
the front door was partly repaired in the past but the swage line was delved in and as its not get-at-able! at the rear was left and filled, this gets it out though
Image
and the smaller dints
Image
sytill a touch of filler going in but at least the metal is near enough where it should be.
should get the prepping done tommorow and masked up,
mike

Ordinary bath/window silicone :?
Was trying to stop the leak from topside by doing the gutter and spotting other various likely locations .
The other areas were the bits of rust/holes on the body, arches etc that you have no doubt come across by now

Rubbish, tools a tool, common enough in most bodyshops, worth their weight in gold almost, the syncro jagdwagon will find it used a lot as the front panal under screen is well creased and I am NOT taking the dash out to get to it.
Hows your coming along?
