What you need is a massive bag sealer and seal the van in a bag. Solved :D

You called, Mike?

Here is a close up of the area on mine, showing the standard trim beneath the windscreen, and a 'temporary' repair at the bottom of the panel. The leading edge of that panel is holed for 6 to 8 inches of it's length and was repaired with Gorilla tape some 3 years ago. Still holding fine.

Hi

Thanks for picture is the flash band underneath the rubber ? If it is how did you get it under without taking screen out ?
What width is the flash band I can only find 75mm being the narrowest.

I may have to lay it just on the very edge of the rubber...

Guide how you did it? :ok

hehe, thats not flashband, its genuine vw  i merely asked for the picky to shoiw you what it would look like,so you can copy it,
you need to cut a template or whatever to make your band the right size/shape, think blue peter and mr pervert/perves whatever his name was.warmed band is pliable , i would fit it just about 1/4"onto the rubber (once cleaned).

I realised that after I posted !

you mention warming it having looked at the flash band it says it self sticks would I still need to warm ?

http://www.bostik.co.uk/construction/pr ... shband/413" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Any use for bitumen here ???? I gotta whole load !

Plan of action
1 clean off rust
2 treat with vactan
3 stick flash band (with template)
4watch the leak appear again !!!!!

How does that sound with hopefully no.4 not happening !

Finished work early today and got stuck in with some help...

Rub down and Vactan

Started by tracing (not my hands!)

From the tracing to a card cut out
[

cutting out( should have bought the 150mmwidth!)

Test

Sticking it down
[

We are done !
[

Finished off with a hair dryer to bond

Not quite S. African standard but lets hope it keeps the rain out ! Report back after the weekend...

Cheers mm and thanks for your help.
If I had to do it again I'd use 150 mm tape so the corners would fit when cutting out, it's bugging me its not 100% straight but I ain't doing it again just yet !
