Water tank maintenance

Dunno where to put this, move it if you like.

The tank cap was a bit manky not been off ever probably, and tank straps were rusty so it's probably not been off either so time for some maintenance, pics to share as usual.

only one screw would come out, I just could not drill the others, hard as nails so I got the dremmel out with a grind stone but it melted the plastic so I ened up with bigger holes but at least it was off with no extra body damage.

by the time I had removed the rust there was nowhere to bolt the filler back I could have welded it but it was easier to make a clamp plate and shift it over a bit to cover the hole, this is just 1.5mm galv plate cut with a jigsaw

made some gaskets and used bigger bolts to fill out the enlarged holes

I also dropped the tank and cleaned it up, painted brackets and refitted it with some draft excluder on brackets to protect the tank, the filler had a crack in the support material due to the old pipe but was watertight. Output pipe to pump was replaced last year with a new one way valve.

old filler pipe was too short and too stiff, manky and had a hole so I purchased the correct 40mm diameter 1m pipe for the Zadi filler cap. I used some rubber sheet wrapped around to stop it chaffing on the body because it's much thinner and more flexible that the old pipe.

Nice job there Itchey. Does yours have a drain on the tank? Ours doesn't and I'm always a bit concerned about 'mankyness' building up in it especially as we SORN it over the Winter moths now. I was thinking of maybe fitting one of these;

yes I have a drain tap.

you must have an outlet point low down I suggest pulling the hose off or adding a three way splitter with a tap in the hose, or maybe just a quick release hoselock type fitting and disconnect the outlet.
