alternative mirrors mod

Hi all for some time i wanted some different mirrors, i was gonna go down the corrado route but couldnt be arsed with the adaptors etc, so i decided on these:-

they were easy to modify and i used one of the existing threads and drilled one hole for the other, the mirror base plate covers the other standard mount, so no mods there either, they have great convexed rear view and can be manualy adjusted to any angle...

Sorry mirrors are from a mk1 mazda mx5, the bases of which are alloy, there were a couple of small lugs on them but they filed flat quite easily.

Yes a bit round and they look like they bugger up your quarterlight opening - so you won't be need them quarterlights anymore.

"a bit round" aero dynamic you mean my quaterlights havn't opened for years they are seized shut, but easy to bend mirrors out the way if i could open them.

You say you drilled a hole for one of the screws? I've been fiddling with corrado mirrors on and off for ages, tried drilling out the mirrors after filing the lugs off with little joy. Did you just drill ampilot hole in the door and use a self tapping screw?

yea just screwed one side in to one of the existing threads then marked on the door panel where the other hole was, drilled a hole then put a countersunk bolt through with a nylock nut on the inside, job done and secure

No problem with them - ideal if you are going for a sporty look if you ask me.

I have a 69 bhp diesel engine, streamlined sporty mirrors should push that up to at least 150bhp!!

whats the view from them like though.
as vans are tall most van mirrors are rectangular so you can see down the side of the whole van.
i would presume you have to move these mirrors around to be able to see the curb when parking

i bought some turbo peep mirrors for mine, seen them on beetles before, thought they're nice and small and mount on the top of the door so neat tidy and mounted in close so no need to fold them in.
just in case anyone else is thinking the same as me don't bother.
they don't fit, the arms are to small, the mirrors are to small (can't see much of anything out the passenger one) and the adjustment on them isn't anywhere near enough.

The vision on both sides is actually better than the left hand drive big electric mirrors i had as the convex on these mirrors is a bit like one of those big round mirrors you see nailed to a post in country lanes, also the other good thing about these mirrors is that if you swap them over they can be mounted upright, an idea i did toy with...

Why not mount the std n/s to the o/s and vice versa, have horizontal oblongs then and zero cost.
