So...
I removed all the hoses and the air box to double check everything was ok and I had nothing damaged or perished hoses, removing all that I had to disconnect the throttle linkage rod.
All looked ok..
I squirted some carb cleaner into the carb, whilst I had it open I thought why not!
Put everything back together and started him.. he sounded good, I let him get up to temp so the auto choke was disengaged and he was idling great!!
Not sure what it was
