photo of oil leak..can someoe help me identify

Post by apcomark »

Hi

have removed my sump guard to locate oil leak ... pic here

http://www.flickr.com/photos/93444270@N00/3919791257/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the oil is leaking from where the hose (hydraulic) between the two round things (pardon my ignorance am not very techy, but keen to learn)... the leak appears to be coming from the hexagonal nut where it joins to make the "T" shape between the two flanges.... (approx centre of pic) u can see where oil has leaked onto exhaust ...

the engine is a 1.6 td 1987 westy....

the oil appears to leak when the engine is warm ... quite severely in fact .... coffe cup sized pool in less than 10mins...!

any help on how to repair this and spares tools needed.... would be very greatful...

To make sure you are barking up the right tree, wash the whole area off with a quality de-greaser (Jizer), blow dry with air line or leave to Air dry before running the engine at fast idle (2000rpm).

Find a nice piece of clean card board to place directly under your engine,,,,,,,,OR sit there watching it with the engine running.

If the oil leak is obvious the cardboard will show this within a short time of the engine being run .........

Mark.(Tonion) is nearly on the right track.
The oil leak contamination is from the Turbo oil return pipe which goes to the sump,It looks like you need a new return pipe, it has a flexi end on it were it couples onto the outlet on the underside of the turbo,

Forget about the Cardboard trick of Fritzzzzzzz. E knows sod all about Diesels-------- :rofl . (He,s a Petrol Head) remove the return pipe. You may be able to get a replacement made up from a huydralic C/o Named Pirtec look in the yellow pages there will be one locally to were you are, Take the old one with you, They also have travelling vans which do repairs on site, if you are unable to go to one of there outlets
