I have VCDS on a laptop, but not been shown how to use it or the necessary link cable.

Last time I tried to use the otherwise excellent VCDS to mess about with Immobilisation, it wouldn't do it because you need the Car's PIN number to do that. The PIN is only accessible with other diagnostics like VAG CAN PRO, and the only systems like that I could buy were cheap clones and were worse than useless (like blowing the car fuses!). I used a generic EPROM editor in the end. I'm far from an expert in this stuff, but I have a feeling that VCDS is not the right tool for that.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Yep, vcds can't retrieve the SKC pin but vagtacho can. Easier to just send the ecu off for immo delete.

I do have a tool and cable to try and do a pin retrieval though.

Thanks for the clarification, I understand the vehicle PIN to be very difficult to obtain without dealer-level hardware (maybe even impossible with older models or dismantled cars) so deleting the immo at the ecu may be the only option.

I'm sure Andy at syncrosport has the wherewithal.

Not much progress, but bought some JX engine bars in nice condition off ebay and now looking at a design for the engine mounting arms that will clear the aircon compressor.
A small detail: stones in your timing belt aren't nice, so I bandsawed the "nose" off the Golf engine mounting bracket to plug the hole in the belt cover. A bit hefty but does the job and it's free.Image

Hi all.

What sort of economy did you get on the drive home, and what are you expecting in the bus?

No reliable mpg figures as the thermostat had failed open. It was a frosty drive from Oxford to Woking, more speed = falling temperature gauge!
I reset the trip before leaving, I think one of my pics shows the average mpg for the run?

There it is. Failed to really warm up. If it wont do that when installed in a 2wd T3 I'll swap back to a fresh wbx!

Small update. Obviously things have stalled, I'll be revisiting the sump aspect as I believe it is the key to a successful conversion and will be a good product.
The big stumbling block is the inlet manifold, because this is a crossflow head engine and the (two-piece) inlet manifold wraps over the rocket cover, mock-ups have shown it to be at least 40mm too tall to go under a 2wd bus/van engine hatch.
I think the solution lies in a cut n shut n flip to the upper manifold, to place it over the engine and coolant hoses etc and get the throttle body pointing at the wbx air box.

Not done just yet...I am stripping down the 02J gearbox to release the combined bellhousing/diff cover (horrible thing) which will allow me to plot out the bolt centres for the 3-bolt sump attachment (completely different to the 2-bolt JX sump) and develop a ~15degree adaptor to fit the JX bellhousing.
