Re: Ci Autohome New Roof!

Yeah, I've got loads of celotex/kingspan. Its the tissue face that I've not come across, hence the question. You can if your carefull strip the foil off one surface of kingspan to allow the board to curve, which leaves the bare foam to bond to. Having a tissue scrim would be so much easier to get a ...

Re: Ci Autohome New Roof!

Looks great! Does the foam board have a trade name? or is it some form of roofing product?

Re: 1986 syncro Caravelle twin slider

I don't think you'll regret using all Vw panels. Apart fom arch's,' my experience says most other stuff is shoddy. Having things that fit will save time and therefore money. Does a syncro have any sort of crossmember between the two front outriggers (b post). I've always thought that's a bit of a we...

Re: 1986 syncro Caravelle twin slider

I'll be very interested in seeing the stiffening mods Ian. I know they all did it from new, but it's quite alarming seeing your door gaps shifting when you jack it up. Are you keeping the bulkhead?

Re: New Panels

As a rule of thumb wherever you can, put back as it was built. There are not many areas on a T3 that are not spot welded. Cut it off to the seam and weld it to the seam. Where it can't be avoided butt welds(edge to edge) are better than lapping. To reproduce a spot weld without a spot welder drill a...

Re: reimo pop top

I'm afraid the roof is still ratchet strapped to the top of the van. I did wash it over the weekend though!! Although sold as a reimo and had a reimo type interior in the van it came from, I'm no longer convinced. It doesn't realy matter who made it in the end, but it would help to know. Its a westy...

Re: Recommended panels ?

The best archs other than original, front and rear are distributed in the uk by magnum panels. I believe Brickwerks,Schofields etc sell these. I think they are made by BBT from Belgium.

Re: Bodywork

Don't be put of Brickwerks panels. They try to be honest about what they sell unlike a lot of other suppliers. Most but not all of the aftermarket panels are a bit poor whoever you buy them from. To be honest, for the amount of work needed to do those jobs correctly £ 900 seems a drop in the ocean (...

Re: Engine bars query

I believe its the early ones that have a cross brace that runs under the sump, so are identified by two U shaped brackets projecting down under the big rubbers either side of the engine. None of yours seem to have them so I'd imagine they are later ones.

Re: Engine bars query

A few years ago I got mine from VW.
They would be a hard thing to measure but if either set are like mine the rubbers are realy quite squished. If the set you have on your JX fit OK and you'r not changing the gearbox, stick with them. I'd imagine your GTi will produce less vibration anyway.

Re: Narrow belt sander

I bought one of the Silverline ones for under£30. I can't realy fault it apart from being being a little underpowered. I didn't want one with the motor sticking out the side as it restricts where you can get into.

Re: Full rear arch panel or rear wheel arch replacement

Don't bother with the big thin floppy things. Why cut the side of your van off if it's not rusty? It might seem like a lot of work but replacing as built will do a much better job and is far more satisfying. Use the BBT? magnum archs and repair around as necessary. And go slow!! https://www.brickwerk...

Re: Heating and hot water

Thats what a calorifier is. A coil in a cylinder. On utilities vehicles they fill em up with a watering can for hand washing on site. I paid about 30 quid for one. Plumbs into the heater pipes. If you have a water heating webersbacher it will do it on site when your parked.
