Tim Shettle at Ultimate engineering sells adaptors that i am using on my AFN conversion. I am using jx exhaust manifold(via adaptor) to VNT turbo and standard late jx exhaust(via adaptor). works really well.

My money would be on a bad (crusty) connection inside the round engine wiring connector-Good place to start.

As stated it sounds like a wiring problem but what type of throttle pot do you have? is it the barrel type or have you gone for the 'all in the pedal' variety? Does the AHU have the round screwed connection to the fuel pump wiring harness? I think I would be looking there if it does for a "pooh" connection-green verdigris on the connection pins etc. Think the OBD socket is an easy fit if you have the correct pin out diagram(I don't) for that year...

Sounds like a early 1z engine. If it won’t rev at all or above 1500 rpm it could be because the ecu cannot see the throttle potentiometer. Im pretty sure Tim at Ultimate engineering can supply adaptor plates for whatever turbo you are using to the standard exhaust as long as you are using the standard jx manifold.
If you are not it is bespoke Im afraid as Andy has pointed out.
