Re: 1.7 Diesel

I've owned both the 1.6D and 1.7D. The 1.6D is painfully slow - I didn't keep it for long. The 1.7D is an improvement and can cruise comfortably at 50 to 55mph, slows down on hills. It's VERY easy on fuel. I wouldn't take it on a motorway. You'd have lorries right up your a*** and getting aggresive....

Re: How can you join leisure battery's? Thinking of putting in 2

Another point - if you're buying new batteries, buy the silver calcium type car battery such as Bosch S5 rather than so-called leisure batteries. They have a 5 year guarantee and are more tolerant to cycling aging and good all-round performance. Plus, they can be used as a starter battery in an emer...

Re: Awning advice please...

Thanks for all the replies. I did find a couple on T'interweb but none seem to be a decent, sensible design and reasonably priced. The bus shelter one seems fine but it's not cheap for what is really a very simple bit of kit. Still, that's probably the one I'll go for but not before I check the deca...

Awning advice please...

I'm not sure whether to put this here or in the camping section but....... can anyone point me to where I can buy a very simple side awning. All I want is a single sheet that I can clip to the side of the van and hold up using two poles and some guy ropes. I did have one of those fancy wind-out jobs...

Re: South Ireland

All great advice from Louey there and I think I've been to them all.

If you can be a wee bit more precise about where you want to go/ how far you want to drive, I'm sure I can give you a few tips. I've been campervanning all over Ireland since the mid 80s so I've got a few camping gems.

Re: BRITTANY FERRIES DISCOUNT CODE.

Different routes and distances / different costs. You can get a ferry from Dartmouth for just a couple of quid, but its feckall use if you want to go the Roscoff. That's true of course, but check the prices from Belfast or Larne to Cairnryan (Scotland) and you'll find that for a sailing that ...

Re: BRITTANY FERRIES DISCOUNT CODE.

Cheers for the info. Always good to have discounts. Wow - it is really useful if you can afford to pay those prices or you aren't a skinflint like me. Brittany Ferries Summer sailings cost the moon, which is a shame. DFDS will remain my choice currently asking £108 return journey Dover to D...

Re: Winter Campervan-ing`

We can't stand a heater on all night, even the Eber on minimum setting unless it's VERY (like -15) cold. Yes, I know what you mean. We turn the B&Q heater thermostat down to a very low setting at night, even then, it's often too warm. Being nicely cool is much more pleasant than being too hot. ...

Re: Winter Campervan-ing`

I use a little 400 watt convector heater I got from B&Q for about £12.00. It's not that powerful but the heat builds up if you keep the doors closed for long enough.

I can run it all night too because it's 100% silent. it's only about the size of a box of cornflakes which is handy.

Re: 3 weeks campervanning in the eastern half of France.

Very well composed and interesting pics as always Noomo. BTW, I've spent the past two years helping my son to restore a 1992 reimo miami t4 camper. It's turned out to be an excellent and characterful van with the best VW conversion I've seen. It's a poptop like yours. The t4 is an excellent van. (No...

All good advice above.

Definately you need to carry two bottles, after all, the ONLY time you can run out is when you're cooking.

Re: 1st France Trip - Top Tips Wanted!

I've been going to France every year since about 1990. The last 10 years I've used Irish Ferries Rosslare to Cherbourg or (better IMO) Roscoff. I live in Belfast. I would say, buy the Rough Guide or Lonely Planet and read them every night to plan the next day or two. All the above advice on where t...
