TDi Air Intake Box (AFN)

Hi - has anyone managed to use the standard TDi air intake box on an AFN TDi conversion? Mine is fitted with one of those cone filters which are oiled and i don`t reckon its that good for my MAF sensor! Was thinking of getting a stock box from the breakers and having a go at fitting it - possibly mi...

Re: AFN hard to start

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I just nipped out to the van at lunch to take a look - popped the engine hatch and i think i found the problem! The feed fuel hose to the pump had fallen on to the top of the alternator pulley which was slowly wearing a hole in it (well, it had worn a hole, hence the proble...

AFN hard to start

Hi, Normally my AFN engine starts literally on the turn of the key - turns over about once on the starter maybe. I noticed yesterday that it took a couple of turns of the starter to kick - didn`t think much of it, but this morning it really struggled to start. Glow plug light came on for about 4 sec...

What fuel tank do you have? 2.1 has baffles and stop swirling. thats interesting - didn`t know you get a standard tank with baffles and anti swirl stuff. i have problems wherby if the fuel level gets to a low positon - say 1/8th full, when i go round corners or if the van jerks like when changing g...

io would guess fuel starvation - there is enough flowing at idle to rev it, but when you put your foot down and the engine under load, it splutters and stuff.

have you checked your fuel filter? is there enough fuel in the tank?

but as part of my wiring, i had an extra circuit added to work with the petrol tacho which has worked fine on another van with a petrol rev counter, so it might work. it combines the signal from the 2 coils with some diodes and eliminates the blue wire completely.

that sounds like a plan - i`m pretty sure the rev counter isn`t blown , but i can`t say for absolute certain as i`ve no way of testing it. i`ll email you some of my details.

cheers,
mike

well i tried connecting the blue wire from the ecu that controls the tacho - i tested the voltage it was giving at idle and it was giving 6.5V. obviously i can`t see the pulses as they`re very high voltage. i tried connecting this to the tacho but no luck i`m afraid. If i can`t get this to work, i t...

i know the blue wire you mean. So if i connect that wire to the signal input on the back of the rev counter it should work?

hi mike, i`m not sure how i would take the take the signal from the alternator - i can easily take a signal from the subaru wiring. I was just hoping to keep the dash looking stock and use the orignal tacho if possible. It seems a shame to have a dash mounted one when i`ve got one sitting in the das...

Convert diesel rev counter to work with a petrol engine

Hi, I was wondering if its possible to convert the standard rev counter in a turbo diesel t25 to accept the signal from a petrol engine. I`ve just fitted a subaru engine in my van and i`d like to get the stock rev counter to work with the subaru engine. I believe the diesel rev counters work from a ...
