Re: Underslung lpg tank
We have an ex-Westfailure one fitted by myself and a chum who is/was a gas fitter. One of the very best improvements we've made to the van ... especially when touring in Europe as you can fill up at any GPL station so long as you have the relevant adaptor. Fitting it yourself would not be beyond the...

Re: Rear brake seized
Sounds like the usual issue of neglect .... the cylinder possibly went out too far and couldn't retract. Replace everything in there as you planned (including the brake/clutch fluid) BUT if you are not 100% confident of what you are doing have it done by a professional.

Re: Inverters
Steve will correct me if I'm wrong but we have a 240v charger for The Present Mrs Hulley (God Bless Her !) 's electric wheelchair. Charging it via the 1000w inverter on a bright sunny day with our 100amp solar panel the leisure battery just about keeps up with the draw.

Re: Copper Pipe for fuel hoses in Engine bay ?
replace with the Brickwerks hose EVERY 12 months as part of your pre-MOT service regime. Try arguing with that ^^ :rofl Easy..... if you are using the Brickwerks hose (good for 100% ethanol/biodiesel) it doesn't need replacing as though it was naff product  Nope, it's not naff mate ... peace ...

Re: Copper Pipe for fuel hoses in Engine bay ?
Ok, check engine bay fuel hose every time you open the lid ... both visual and by feel ... replace with the Brickwerks hose EVERY 12 months as part of your pre-MOT service regime. Fuel hoses should be complete (no filters in the engine bay) and NEVER use the nice shiny braided fuel hose as this leak...

Re: Coolant leak from inlet manifold
well no, but I may be wrong, mine has paper gaskets each side of the thick 'spacer' so I assumed this was normal but maybe not. I wouldn't want to spend 12 quid each time I took the carb off on the spacer. In 14 years mine's only been off the manifold once and that was when it was replaced ... to s...

Re: Swapping early DG for late DG
There are considerable advantages to having a late (improved) cooling system etc but that would mean exhaust, front>back pipes, engine bay hoses and pipes, exhaust etc. The wiring is also different for a late engine (oil pressure DOPS and cooling) so you would have to retain/swap all the ancillaries...

Re: Oil light and buzzer
Check the 2 brown wires that run across the top of the nearside head ... they meet at a double connector near the thermostat housing (Blue and Yellow wires from memory) ... these often corrode and go high resistance, including in that junction. Otherwise check the terminals are on the pressure switc...

What he said ^^^
Nothing worse than driving around knowing you have a time bomb ticking. I remember an old friend who lost the end of his dipstick in his DG ... the thing eventually surfaced half way round the M25 on a Sunday afternoon.

LPG just shows up a weak ignition before petrol does because it needs a stronger spark.
If you remember my list of spares to carry at all times the last set of known-good cap, arm, leads and plugs are on it.

Do the lights come on when it won't start but only the sidelights and no headlights ? If so the symptoms match my faulty ignition switch. No turning over, nothing … then mysteriously comes back to life.
