Re: 1.9DG engine sounding like a machine gun when accelrating
Have put a cloth over the exhaust pipe and can't see any exhaust fumes coming back out in the engine bay area, so not sure if exhaust now either. Just seems like too many factors to consider.

Re: 1.9DG engine sounding like a machine gun when accelrating
Ex husband had a listen on a visit to see the kids. Reckons it's fast idle. Possibly air mixture not right or timing not right. I know that the corrugated air hose has torn in two across the heat exchangers. I had asked on here years ago about that air hose but general consensus was it doesn't do an...

Re: 1.9DG engine sounding like a machine gun when accelrating
Thanks guys. For the noise, think football clacker thing. Doesn't subside after a while, like tappets would. OK, so I shall do a bit of looking around on the exhaust manifold, etc. Currently parked up on a campsite, I suspect my last for awhile. So can't really check it over on site. Looks like I'm ...

1.9DG engine sounding like a machine gun when accelrating
Hi all, Engine always had a lovely tick tick tick sound. All of this week, it's sounding like a machine gun, especially when accelerating. Take foot off gas, doesn't sound too bad. Pulls away fine. Have always suspected it's running on 3, but have never noticed any lack of pull. Anyone around Medway...

Re: Continues to turn over/running on with ignition off
How bizarre. Just charged up the battery. Connected it up. Turned key. It started. Turned off. Fine. Turned key. Started. Turned off. Disconnected battery so it's fresh for when I need it next.
Maybe the battery was a little weak.

Continues to turn over/running on with ignition off
1984 A reg T25 1.9DG petrol water cooled Couldn't start engine today. Has stood for a few weeks. Is a lazy starter, but there's a knack to getting her going (each owner knows their van). Today she wouldn't start, kept turning over, but didn't catch. But the odd thing was that when I turned off the i...

Re: Keep killing 12V USB chargers
Last time I camped (beginning of Sept) I am sure my daughter used an iphone charger in the cigarette socket. This weekend I camped with hubby, and we couldn't charge our phones on the journey (non-iphone). Have I read right, that charging an iphone could potentially blow the cigarette lighter socket...

Re: Speedo needle not moving 1.9DG watercooled
Thanks guys. I will take another look at the pic in the wiki.
think I am still a bit confused with it really. If I turn the split pin round and round, should it spin freely? And if so, should the needle move in the dash at all? Not getting any movement.

Speedo needle not moving 1.9DG watercooled
Hi guys, My speedo needle doesn't move. Was working fine, no erratic needle wobbling as others describe, just went straight to zero whilst driving along one day. Looked at the wiki page. The pic of the wheel hub there shows a metal bar going through the end of the cable, and a jubilee clip around th...
