Re: Bypass idle cut off valve

Many thanks. Thats a great help. Better not drive it too far then, even though its unplugged, until I fix it.

Bypass idle cut off valve

I have a 2l Aircooled, and a little machined hole (which could possibly have had something fall off?????) behind the bypass idle cut off valve on the left carb has just started making a very load air sucking noise (audiable in the cab with the window shut). When I put my finger over it at tickover i...

Paddy Hopkirk have a bit of a reputation for being a bit crap. Thule make some that fit my poptop T25, although by the time you've bought all the bits they work out about £200.

A cheaper alternative is a rather commercial looking type kit available from Halfords. They work out just over £100 all in.

Seriously, I'd try the foot flat to the floor (not pump) technique to start it when warm. Thats the instructions in the VW manual, and it makes it start much more easily when warm.

If this doesn't solve problem, then look at the more complicated solutions.

Don't know about the plate, but the only place I could find a replacement early tailgate lock was from a VW dealer. Tried JK, breakers, lock smiths, etc.

Thanks for reply. Definately not a flat battery though as was after a 100 mile drive that the starter stopped working. Voltmeter shows battery was fully charged and its only a few weeks old.

Starter motor

I have an 82 Aircooled. When I turn the ignition nothing happens on my van (apart from a tick from what sounds like a relay under the dash, and a slight tick from the starter motor). If I turn the headlights on and turn the ignition, the lights dim. From following through the Hayes am I right in thi...

Am I not right in thinking that when T25's are warm you should press the accellorator to the floor (not pump) and hold it there to start them. Think thats what I read in the manual and it seems to work a treat. Mines been smelling a bit recently. I'm guessing its evaporation in this really hot weath...

If you don't want to drill holes in your dash you can get sockets that don't need to be flush mounted in a panel. I have one for my minidisk player that I located within easy reaching distance of the glove box under the dash. I then have the power cable, along with the line out going to the stereo, ...

Don't know about the ignition bit as I have my stereo wired directly to the battery. I can run mine for hours at a reasonable level even on my starter battery rather than leisure one (not something you would normally do), though if you have a sub etc it may easily kill it in half an hour.

Thanks for advice Ivorblueun. Solding the copper strip back together and filing it down worked really well. Got a beautiful smooth ring again now. The copper strip bit that comes out of the steering column and makes the + contact with the copper ring also needed replacing. Can not easily solder arou...

You won't be able to get hardened glass quick, but most glass cutters can cut laminated glass to size. I used this in a small louvre window (cost £2). Don't know whether such a glass would be suitable/possible for a sliding pane. Guess you would also need a stencil for it as well. Maybe an idea thou...

Broken horn contacts

The metal ring on the back of the steering wheel that makes the contact with a bit of metal on the steering column has just snapped. So horn does not work properly. Also the metal connector bit that is on the steering column is mangled now. Anybody got any idea where I might be able to source anothe...

I changed my old shabby looking standard mirrors for convex ones from JK (cost around 20-30 quid each i think). Made a significant difference, though as with all mirrors to see right in the blind spots you have to lean forwards a bit.
