Re: Bodywork recomendation for Edinburgh/Central Scotland?

Thanks Paul. Looking at the restorations on your FB made me less worried about the state of my van :D.

Bodywork recomendation for Edinburgh/Central Scotland?

Hi, Does anyone have any recommendations for some panel replacement, seam and repainting work in central Scotland? It's a hightop westfalia - so someone with enough height is important! I did have the van booked into PFP coach works, but have been unable to contact them so am looking for an alternat...

Re: Western Isles, August

side trip to Coll/Tiree on the first leg, it seems theres only one ferry a week ? Tiree ferries are daily, and most of them stop at Coll as well. Wild van camping is prohibited on Tiree except at specifically allocated places (at a cost) - http://www.isleoftiree.com/history-nat-heritage.html . Ther...

Re: Power steering fluid loss

I had a flexible replacement made up by Pirtek, who have branches across the UK. I just used some garden host to work out the exact length, and took the ends of the knackered pipe to them & they made the pipe up there & then. Pirtek also seem to have a mobile service, though I'm sure this wo...

Haven't go a photo to hand, but the 'dipstick' is surounded by a moveable, cylindrical magent. There is also a polystyrene float, with a hole in it that supports the magnet & keeps it at the water level.

If that doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try and sort out a picture.

Though I haven't any personal experience of them, http://www.vwbusshop.de/ looks like it may be worth a look.

Internally the dipper is pretty simple - it's just a strip of copper coated board, a couple of reed switches & a couple of resisters. So repairing it should be feasible.

To check the 'dipper' measure the resistance, with a multimeter, with the float at different posistions. It should have high resitiance at one end, 0 restance at the other & medium in the middle. If this isn't the case then the dipper is knackered (possibly repairable). Mine was - due to a small...

Thanks Dave. Getting the old pipe out in one piece looks pretty imposible. My plan was to use a bit of garden hose to plane a new route for & measure the length of the required high pressure line. Removing the lines from the pump looks like a bit of a nightmare on a diesel, as the battery shelf ...

I've just had another look. It's the high pressure line that's knackered - so no surprise that my bodge didn't do much good. I've googled around a bit & it seems that getting some flexible hoses made up by Pirtek or similar is the easiest solution. Does anyone know what type & size of fittin...

Corroded power steering pipes

Hi, I was hoping my first post to these forums would be about something other than a problem with my van! My recently purchased van (1988 1.6 TD, LHD) has developed a pin sized leak in one of the power steering pipes. I think it's the return pipe, and the hole is just above the rear axles. On closer...
