Re: How do I get to the hoses for the windshield washer

Cheers everyone for the input. Blowing with an airline without removing anything proved enough so all up and running now for the MOT tomorrow!

How do I get to the hoses for the windshield washer

I just replaced my washer pump for the windshield but only very little water is coming through. Basically just some bubbles visible on the nozzles. I want to check the hoses for blockage but how do I get to them? Do I need to remove the dashboard?

Re: Draining cooling system

Thanks for the advice! I never managed to drain more than 9-10 litres but with a couple of drain and fills I’m sure it will do. This was definitely the least enjoyable operation so far on my T3… impossible not to make a mess 😄. Feels good to have done it though as the coolant probably hasn’t been ch...

Re: Connection on washer pump

Thanks Rob and Aidan,

That makes sense. It is the model with bare spade terminals that keeps coming up when I search so that is the one I'll be going for then.

Connection on washer pump

I need to replace my washer pump (windshield) but all the new ones I find have another connection than my old one. Is it not possible to find original model? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20260727/86173725824f4e8c2651ebc2b511ed36.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20260727/a0258eb6562945996f796...

Re: Draining cooling system

You could try jacking the rear of the van up. Also open the bleed screw on the radiator and turn the dash heater valve to hot. There should be another 13 or 14 litres of coolant in there to come out. Ok, jacked the rear up, opened bleeder screw on radiator, heat on, lid off on reservoir and expansi...

Re: Draining cooling system

Dont drain from the pump, its too much effort and those hose clips are a pig. Drain from lowest point - coolant hoses near the radiator. The spare wheel carrier makes a good backrest. Drain, fill with water, run it, let it cool. Repeat 4 times till water is clear. On the last two runs use posh wate...

Re: Draining cooling system

By the way, pictures hosted on IMGUR are no longer visible in the UK without a VPN or similar, so if you can host your images somewhere else then you're likely to get more engagement on your posts. Thanks for the heads-up. When attaching photos I just use the little black button with a white line. ...

Draining cooling system

Hi, I am about to drain the cooling system to replace the very old coolant. However I cannot locate the hoses mentioned in the Bentley manual. Attached is a picture of the Bentley procedure and one of my engine. Could someone help me identify “lower coolant hose (1) from water pump at connection pip...

Re: Maintenance priority list for 1990 T3

These gauges seem to be hard to get by and sometimes cost a fortune. Best alternative so far is this one: https://www.hs-werkzeughandel.de/de/Zahnriemenspannungspruefer-VAG-VW210-VW-210.html If no one says that it does not look like the right gauge, I will order it. Regarding the other special tools...

Re: Maintenance priority list for 1990 T3

Many thanks again!

Received the belt and tensioner today so will start working on it as soon as I can. Read through the Bentley chapter on this and understood roughly what to do. Do I need the special tools they mention or can I get by on home made solutions (except for the torque wrench of course).

Re: Maintenance priority list for 1990 T3

Thanks for the replies, it helps a lot.

About changing the cam/timing belt. What parts exactly are wise to change in that operation? Belt, tensioner and water pump? I think I have seen kits with these parts included.

Maintenance priority list for 1990 T3

Hi everyone, I’d appreciate some advice on creating a sensible priority list for maintenance on my 1990 VW T3 (original 1.6 TD JX engine). I’m trying to decide what jobs I should prioritize over the coming months to keep the van reliable and avoid expensive failures. One thing I recently discovered ...
