i think the cap was replaced the first time it split one, is there a way to check them. Fritz - when you say lift the cap? what do you mean, should i be able to see something that will tell me its the head? a local garage, who i trust, fitted the engine, and said there were no problems with it... so...

I'm having some problems with my van, its an 1985 panel, with a recent 1.6td engine installed. it was fitted in march and ran happily for about a month or so when it started leaking coolant into the front footwells a bit, not a massive amount, then while sitting in traffic it split a pipe...

Hello All I have a 1985 Panel van, with a very tired 1.6 N/a Diesel engine in it. it's smokey and slow and is going to need sorting soon. i absolutely love this van and am happy to spend a bit to get it right. I have done a massive amount of searching on here and there is so much info i'm a bit conf...

thanks again, the correct length was 875 i got one now, seems as though the alternator has seized, but only under load suprisingly?
i have the correct belt now looking for an alternator.

Hello All 1st post an all that, hoping someone can help. i have a 1985 1.6 deisel n/a Panel van, driving home the other night and the battery light came on and the temp gauge started flashing. got out and found that the fan belt had come off, no problem i though and i went and got one from halfords....
