Thanks, I just popped out and had the 195 put on the spare and it easily fits the clamshell carrier.

Is it OK to put a 195 R14 tyre on a standard spare wheel?

I just put 4 14" Carats on my van with 195 R14 tyres on. My spare is still 185 R14

Personally I wouldn't get work like that done at a garage just before going on a long trip unless it was essential.

Better to have it done and drive around locally for a few days, just in case the mechanic wasn't on the ball.
