Re: 1.9 DG running fine, now nothing
Slight change in my previous suggestion - could be an an air leak between the carb and manifold and also your timing could be out. Check all the nuts are tight around the carb (sometimes even spraying around there won’t show a change in revs unless your bang on it) and then double check the timing....

Re: 1.9 DG running fine, now nothing
Also, another thing to add, it was popping and banging on the overrun very badly beforehand. And has done it for a while. Could see the glow in the exhaust if you followed it.
The exhaust is also completely rusted through.

Re: 1.9 DG running fine, now nothing
I bought an inline dial type pressure gauge for the fuel flow that you “plumb” in the fuel line - I believe you are looking for 2-3 bar but that should probably be checked! It sounds like you have other issues as well as the fuel unless they have been resolved now? OK great thank you. Well when it ...

Ahh I see, potentially!

Hi, I did change the fuel pump when we broke down. First thing I did. I just looked and there wasn't much fuel in pipe to the carb to be honest. Only a bit at the bottom of pipe. I just assumed gravity had bought it back.

Re: 1.9 DG running fine, now nothing
Hi all, Still no luck with van :( I've replaced all the ignition system and done a compression test, all values around 150psi. I have found now that If I give a good few pumps on the throttle (or by hand on carb) before turning over, it starts to splutter but is popping a lot too. There seems to be ...

Re: 1.9 DG running fine, now nothing
Yeah the spark is weak (according to AA guy) but all spark plugs and leads are relatively new (maybe 1500 miles old). Since AA guy said spark was weak. I've changed most of the ignition system and it's still dead. Are there any earth's to check. I can't find much information online about where to ch...

Re: 1.9 DG running fine, now nothing
OK so changed coil, dizzy, rotor and hall sender.
Still getting a strong spark to dizzy and a slightly weaker spark out. It's very keen to turn over but still nothing.
Maybe Ignition control unit? This one looks very old.
Thanks

Re: 1.9 DG running fine, now nothing
Thanks for heads up everyone.
It's very weird as its getting spark to distributor then only weak spark coming out. Not even even start would help.
So it must be timing which would mean hall sender

Re: 1.9 DG running fine, now nothing
Thanks all for the replies!
Yes I have ordered a coil as it was backfiring very badly and will fit that today. Have heard about the hall sensor issue so will try that too.
It was a very sudden failure with just a few hiccups before it went. I will also check earth's.
Thanks

1.9 DG running fine, now nothing
Hi all, was driving back from france last week and it stumbled a few times at low revs, then it just died and won't restart. AA man was convinced it was the distributor and rotor as the spark was weak. Easy start wouldn't even help it. Have changed those parts but it still won't work. Fuel is gettin...

A bad alternator?
Hi all, Van was fine, drove it 30 miles no issues and then has repeatedly started well whilst sat and we've been working on it. We then left it idling the other day to circulate new oil. Turned it off, left over night and then battery was dead. Have checked the alternator with the multimeter on the ...

It's a 1984 which I believe are bullet ones. We can see that they all look intact though.
Thanks

Ahh thanks both. Will have a look today. The fuses all seem intact but we could change just incase.
