Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

The powerspark unit is ok, but without the retard function you may have some difficulty getting your idle down low enough (whilst still staying smooth with good emissions). As a CU is timed to 5°ATDC with vacuum connected you need to compensate for that. The retard function usually knocks it back a...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

My van had the 32/36 progressive dgv and 009 when I bought it, it was very difficult to start and ran bad, so I replaced the 009 ( originally designed for industrial stationary engines ) with a 034 power spark but found on my dgv ( was not an Empi ) the vacuum port was in the wrong place and advanc...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

I can't find any mention of carbs in your posts. Cold you confirm that you still have the original pair of Solex carbs? Without these you wouldn't get a vacuum retard signal. Ah well I'm not expecting a retard signal tbh - I've got an EMPI 32/36 style progressive carburettor fitted along with an 00...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

Oh that's a really kind offer David thank you but I'm now sorted - I've bought a Powerspark dizzy 034 type with electronic ignition and coil as well. Thanks to all who responded again. With vacuum advance too? The type 4 distributors slightly different running an advance and a retard too Yes it has...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

Hello, An 009 distributor is the cheapest, but not the best for these engines,, If you are happy to go with a points and condensor setup: fOiSOObjk2E or if you want to go electronic: KkyBAMMHpa4 Straight forward and inexpensive. Carry the necessary spares!! Air-Cooled Bliss... 8) end text I meant t...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

Thanks all again - I'm now of course descending into a complete rabbit hole about which distributor I should be going for as a replacement. I'd really appreciate some advice at this stage to save a costly mistake - and of course don't worry I'll be getting advice on timing too in due course.(!) So -...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

Yes indeedy. Type 4 as I understand - it's certainly a CU stamped engine,. do you have some smart dizzy recommendations. Am thinking of going back to an SVDA distributor with an inbuilt electronic ignition now. No idea why the original electronic ignition was removed unless previous owners got tired...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

Thanks all for engaging with this. I'm guessing a *cheap* copy of an 009 definitely isn't the best for the engine either  and thank you for the videos. I'd still like to post a picture and bottom the thing out. I suspect the cap and body are different manufacturers. Thank you! https://i.imgur.c...

Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

Hi there - wonder if anyone could help me identify the manufacturer of my distributor body  which is a non standard contact driven (ie non electronic), non vacuum . Looks like a 009 style but clearly isn't Bosch. The marking on the side says AZ20J I'm hoping to put some electronic ignition within th...

Re: Rolling Roads in the South East

Can well recommend Aaron Tucker at HT Racing at Brands Hatch. I’m running a Weber and also have Marco Mansi Rockers - some details of the set up can be seen here: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=173273&start=15 Thanks will check him out as well - enjoyed the photos of the rockers -...

Re: Rolling Roads in the South East

Does it really need a rolling road, can't imagine it makes much difference on a single carb.   I'm also in SW London though, so will watch with interest as my T3 failed mot on emissions and i'm in the process of sorting it out. Recently I took my van (2.1DJ) to Kaz Surrey auto works   https:// www....
