Re: Horn contact ring access

Has it simply stopped working? Testing; if you record 12 volts in wiring by horn but no sound, then remove the horn, clean it up and test it directly via your starter battery with two wires. Accumulated road dirt often reduces it's abilities. If it works then issue is wiring up to steering wheel. R...

Re: Horn contact ring access

Make sure the steering is straight , 24mm socket on a 6” extension , take the wheel off and the horn ring and its spring contact are right there , and good clean and possibly a reshape of the spring contact may well be all you need , no need to remove the cowlings Super useful thank you - will give...

I looked at this thank you - it's fine. But horn still not working. Is it time to take the steering wheel off to get at the connector ring - if that's what is needed?

Horn contact ring access

Hello everybody - apologies if this is an eyeball rolling question but I'm just trying to fix the horn on my 82 air cooled t25 and I'd reallly appreciate some (probably quick) advice. I've tested the 12V is reaching the horn itself underneath, and the horn button works just fine in itself (by removi...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

The powerspark unit is ok, but without the retard function you may have some difficulty getting your idle down low enough (whilst still staying smooth with good emissions). As a CU is timed to 5°ATDC with vacuum connected you need to compensate for that. The retard function usually knocks it back a...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

My van had the 32/36 progressive dgv and 009 when I bought it, it was very difficult to start and ran bad, so I replaced the 009 ( originally designed for industrial stationary engines ) with a 034 power spark but found on my dgv ( was not an Empi ) the vacuum port was in the wrong place and advanc...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

I can't find any mention of carbs in your posts. Cold you confirm that you still have the original pair of Solex carbs? Without these you wouldn't get a vacuum retard signal. Ah well I'm not expecting a retard signal tbh - I've got an EMPI 32/36 style progressive carburettor fitted along with an 00...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

Hello, An 009 distributor is the cheapest, but not the best for these engines,, If you are happy to go with a points and condensor setup: fOiSOObjk2E or if you want to go electronic: KkyBAMMHpa4 Straight forward and inexpensive. Carry the necessary spares!! Air-Cooled Bliss... 8) end text I meant t...

Re: Distributor Identification 'AZ20J'

Thanks all again - I'm now of course descending into a complete rabbit hole about which distributor I should be going for as a replacement. I'd really appreciate some advice at this stage to save a costly mistake - and of course don't worry I'll be getting advice on timing too in due course.(!) So -...
