Re: Light smoke and plastic smell from engine

Sadly, if it does have a diagnostic port some patrols are clueless. I have had more mis-disgnosed breakdowns than I care to think of. Thankfully, a bit of logical thinking allowed me to fix the cars myself. If it smoked at first, but has not returned since, I would be tempted to think it may be som...

Very good spot Mocki. Me and the RAC fella checked the coolant, which was full to the brim, and a little spilled out...

Re: Light smoke and plastic smell from engine

Those are your spark plug leads and the inlet manifold does not get hot enough to burn anything other than your hands as it is water heated. Open the air filter box and make sure that the element is clean, if it isn't then start looking at the crankcase ventilation system. A fresh engine will have ...

Thank you. Will get under the van and have a look in the morning  👍

Light smoke and plastic smell from engine

Hi there, need a bit of help diagnosing why we might have had smoke and a burnt plastic / rubber smell from engine compartment. Noticed the smell after driving 3 miles at resi speeds, stopped the van a few hundred yards later, and a noticed bit of smoke coming out the driver-side vent ('normal' grey...

Re: Recommendations for new cushions

Thanks so much @shinnster. It's both the foam and the covers we're after. Both are pretty knackered. I'll check out GB Foam. Has the foam lasted, and is it comfortable? Also, good suggestion about second hand. I'd assumed the dimensions would be unique to each conversion, but maybe I can find someth...

Recommendations for new cushions

Hi there, We want to replace the rock and roll and pop top cushions and upholstery in our van. Does anyone have any recommendations? Would prefer comfy and well made to cheap, although cost is obviously a consideration. We're in West London near Heathrow, if anyone happens to have any nearby recomme...

Re: Erratic horn, now dead... HELP!

UPDATE: Horn fixed!

Turned out to be a dodgy connection between the horn ring, which had worn over time, and the metal connection on the indicator stalk. £50 for both parts on Brickwerks, clean up and a dab of dieletric grease, and werking just like new  👍...

Thanks again, matey  👍. I'll get myself a 24mm wrench and see what I can find beneath!

Re: Erratic horn, now dead... HELP!

Thanks Steve. So is your guess that the problem with the circuit is in the horn ring? What's the best way to test it if I manage to open it up?

Erratic horn, now dead... HELP!

Hi, I've had an issue with the horn, and on trying to disassemble and clean I've now somehow killed it. Any help welcome, bearing in mind that I know little to nothing about van electrics. Here's a run down of my issue.. – Previously would only sound poorly if you hit a sweet spot on the button – Co...
