Re: Carb refurbishing/rebuilding
I should have said that it's the carb body that wears, not the spindle. That would be far too easy to fix!

Re: Carb refurbishing/rebuilding
Whenever twin Sole carbs are discussed, spindle wear is sited as a problem. My feeling is that they would need to be really very badly worn to cause anything other that a minor misstune at idle or small throttle opening when inlet vacuum would be greatest. This could be corrected via the idle circui...

Re: Drum brake adjuster is not visible
It's been quite a while since I worked on mine, but for certain the adjuster is below the brake cylinder and between the shoes. The plugged hole at 2 o'clock is probably to check the shoe thickness. I suspect Oldiebut goodie is correct.

Re: 2.0 CU Starting issues.
The duct blocking your access to the top bolt is a warm air feed to the air filter box. Only active in cold weather to reduce carb icing.

My 1982 vans don't have intermittent wipers, and I'm not sure what the blowers you refer to are? Has it been modified?

Re: Early Slding door Catch fouling on door card
This is my early slider. The card I'd uncovered, but even so there is a gap that a finger fits between catch and card. Also a gap between card and runner cover panel. Looks like your door is closer to the body than mine.

Re: Van Running wierd (popping) and erratic rev counter
The tacho is getting it's signal from the wire that runs between the distributor and coil, so could be either, but it's the distributor that generates the signal, so likely to be the source. I'm not familiar with your engine so can't be more specific.

Re: Aircooleer Missing on cylinder 1
One of mine splutters a little until the choke has fully opened, about 3-4 minutes. Only an issue under load so never been able to check if it's a specific cylinder. I guess it's the choke setup that I've never really got fully sorted. I usually start the engine a few minutes before setting off and ...

Re: T25 2.0 CU Fuel Pump
The missing pipe from the top/rear of the air box to the inlet controls a flap that allows warm air to be drawn into the intake. This is to prevent carb-icing in cold weather. Mine are bypassed and haven't caused problems, but VW wouldn't have fitted it if not needed somewhere in the world. Should b...

Re: Clunk when lifting the clutch... any ideas?
Whilst free wheeling during a gear change, the wheels are driving the gearbox. Then when the clutch is re-engaged the engine drives via the gearbox the wheels, so any slack will make a clunk. You could put the van in gear with one wheel lifted off the ground and hand brake off (other wheels securely...

Re: Hot Air Duct Pipe
I have spent much time looking, but always find they are the exit from heat exchanger pipes. I have a spare left side pipe (bought thinking it was a right hand one), but still looking for the right side. Using a length of night heater hose for now.

Re: Valve springs
As I understand it, valve springs have a resonance, causing the valves to bounce off the valve seat at a specific rev range. Using two springs of different size and thus resonance overcomes this issue. A bigger stronger spring would have a very high frequency resonance, way above usual engine rev ...

Re: Help with removal of nearside brake hub
Oops, sorry for the repeat post. We may be making assumptions here, as OBG states, is the op referring to wheel nuts?
