Unless the fragment sinks and drifts/gets sucked backwards toward the tank outlet... How big a piece broke off the filler cap? I don’t think it was much as I have since looked at the other unbroken caps. It looks like a lip of plastic that secured the two pieces broke off. If only Fantastic Voyage ...

The same one who would design a fuel cap to more easily break off in the tank than be extracted?
