My 82 T25 had Saab seats with modified Vw rails. It now has mx5 seats with modified mx5 rails as they were a million times better than the Vw rails. Half decent fabrication skills are a must I’d say though

Re: Welding question
I usually but weld to a gap of a slitting disc or less. Using a technique of tack, move 3 inches tack, repeat until the whole seam is weld. This reduces distortion. Weld through primer I try and use as much as possible but I mainly use it where the welded joint won’t be visible after I’ve welded it....

Re: Spot Weld question
Hi Neil, not sure how much you know about mig welding yet. But have a search on plug welding. It’s an excellent technique that will see you right for most of what you’ll want to do with these vans.

Re: window installation procedure

Re: What lurks beneath
Fair enough. I dare say it’ll be worse underneath the track. It’s mad how these t25s rot on the body so bad. But the chassis tend to stay pretty decent

Re: What lurks beneath
Mine was knackered common area. Probably worth some welding and fresh metal before it does go to far. Mine was made up of cardboard and filler. I had to make a custom piece to weld in. So if you can get away with a smaller repair now it’s be worth it

Re: Sliding Door Track Cover Brackets
On my early air cooled they were literally 15mm wide steel strips bent at 90. With a tab that matches on the cover and a self rapper that connects the 2. Not sure if these are OG. But I welded 4 more the same back on . 2 per side. Think it was about 30-40mm long on the body and then comes out probab...

Re: Aircooled knocking
That doesn’t sound great. I know mine knocked 2.0cu when it’s been left a while to do with the hydraulic rappers losing pressure. Maybe worth checking the valve train.
