Thanks for the replies.
Anyone have experience of the vw speedshop system? looks the best value stainless one?
So if I pull out the rotten part of the J tube, hoses and blank off the connections it has no effect on the engine?

Early DG exhaust
After many repairs my silencer has finally had it and am considering the options. Do I ? A. Replace piecemeal mild steel parts and if so has anyone had any success in applying a coating/tape that seems to do a good job. B. Install a shiny stainless kit and which one is best value? Also can anyone te...

Re: Setting up refurbished pierburg
Thanks for all your tips. Got her running OK now by adjusting mainly idle screw and little bit of mixture. The difference in performance is amazing. Recommend Bromyard, they really know these carbs. Still having trouble starting from hot where it takes a good 10 or so cranks and a bit of accelerator...

Re: Setting up refurbished pierburg
Had the carb refurbed as the throttle actuator was damaged and John was the only guy with the expertise to keep this carb in service. Trying to keep the old girl original. I agree, defo not the carb. OK, will check the timing and look for air leaks. Any thoughts on the breather oil? I suppose the ex...

Setting up refurbished pierburg
Hello, Have recently had carb overhauled by Bromyard and now have a couple of issues. Cold start all fine but when choke valve fully open and engine hot the idle slowly decreases over 20 seconds or so until she cuts out. So far I have adjusted the idle screw in 2 turns and she ticks over ok there bu...

Re: Clutch slipping when hot
Thanks a lot fellas. Only had the van a year so not sure of clutch age, think she is going to have to come out! Forgot to add that I also get the occasional shudder when taking up drive so not looking good. With that in mind can you advise on any special tools I will need to replace the whole unit p...

Clutch slipping when hot
Hi, just trying to sort the van out before the spring and just remembered that last year she was occasionally slipping when changing up gear. It was only apparent when hot i.e: after 50 miles or so? There is a small gap between slave piston and input lever to gearbox. Is this indicative of anything?...

Re: Pierburg 2E3 cold start
Thanks for the info.
My spring was wound on an extra turn and so holding the valve open. Flap now closes and chokes properly but action feels a little stiff.
Will see if it all resets nicely on next start.
Thanks again

Re: Pierburg 2E3 cold start
Thanks for the photo. Yes please, let me know how to buy one of these from you. (Well done with the manufacturing process too). Looking at the photo : is the choke flap on the pivot of the plastic part, as with my carb you can press the metal lever (at top of photo) and the choke flap moves. Going t...

Pierburg 2E3 cold start
Hello, Looking for a bit of detailed knowledge really. My van has become difficult to start from cold and it is due to the choke flap not closing when you depress the accelerator. I have checked the linkage and it just seems that I have a part missing between the throttle input and the choke flap be...
