Changed the glow plugs today and replaced the return pipes and all is good. Used to get a bit of white smoke on start up as well which I don't now. The plug at No 4 was well shot on the connector.
Thanks for the advice guys. Spot on.

Re: JX 1.6 Turbo Diesel starting issue
Weird thing is, when it starts it runs just fine which I wouldn't expect with a slipped timing? I adjusted the alternator belt tension to stop the charge light flickering and did notice the bottom pulley appeared to have a slight wobble to it. Also replaced one of the overflow pipes as it appeared t...

JX 1.6 Turbo Diesel starting issue
Evening, I've an intermittent starting problem with my Westy. Standard 1.6TD JX engine, nothing special to it and hasn't let me down in the previous couple years ownership...however. Recently, when wanting to come home from work, the van wouldn't start. Kicked initially as though it fired on the fir...

Re: Recent mods to my Westy
I have some new plastic resin on order which shouldn't be as brittle so I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Recent mods to my Westy
The side repeaters are a custom made mould using clear cast resin with a 5 LED buld sunk into it. It's proving a bit brittle at the minute so looking for a more suitable resin. If I find some I think I might knock a few sets out to try and get back some of the cost from the 2 latex moulds and 4 resi...

Trust me, when the end of the world comes at least I know that part of my van will survive.

Recent mods to my Westy
Took some fiddling but here are the mods: Homebrew badgeless grill, nothing overly special, but home made. Wiper arms are early Passat so sit flatter against the frame. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k194/franmac1/SAM_1494.jpg Other mod on the big mirrors. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k194/f...

Oh, and here's another mod I'm working on. This is the initial prototype. Can you see what it is yet?

Re: Clips for front grill snapped - anyone know of a fix?
Thanks all for the input and tonight, inspired by some of the answers I had, I had a go at fixing it. I started with some flat Ali I had in the garage with the aim of making a U- shaped section bent to 90 degrees to fit over the broken clip. Here’s the initial sketch: http://i88.photobucket.com/albu...

Clips for front grill snapped - anyone know of a fix?
I've a square headlight grill which has one of the lower clips snapped off which makes the bottom corner stick out. Before I start trying to mod something up I thought I'd ask to see if anyone has sorted this before.
Any advice gratefully received.

Re: TRAKKA SYNCRO just popped up on fleabay
What did you do with the original front to poptop The receding hair line was swopped with a guy on one of the forums who wanted one. I went for the luggage rack as my kids like sitting out there and it gives me somewhere to stick the awning. Nice but I bet it hasn't got Trakka plywood cabinets with...

Re: TRAKKA SYNCRO just popped up on fleabay
I've just found out the Trakka is back in the news. Having spoken at length to the second owner, who knew the first owner (very rich) and saw it land in the UK in it's first year on the road, and having gone through the paperwork thoroughly, I can vouch for it's provenance. I only sold it on because...
