Re: Push rod oil leek
Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think there is some confusion over push rods and push rod tubes. The push rods themselves would not cause an oil leak. It's the push rod tubes, or their seals which allow oil to leak. The tubes can rot through, as happened on my engine. The seals can also perish. It's a...

Re: Just a quick blow over...
Used to use celly years ago with my brother who was a qualified and damn good painter! I did the welding and fitting, he did the spraying. it was my full time job and he just came along when I needed him. Happy days...... We'd respray with or without a mask and no extractors!!! Thinking back we were...

Cover with veneer as I suggested then paint the veneer white. Or how about some white plastic sheeting. The stuff used when lining bathroom walls etc.

Ah, right. It's late. I'm enjoying a pint or two of our local brew and listening to Gene Pitney. Maybe it's my lucky day, or even lucky night! Note to wife: NO, I didn't mean that!!!Ant-t wrote:I ment no tappet noise/oil drain down after 2 weeks, that's good going.

Re: Quiet engine?
I always park it at the side of the house behind the gate. There is barely enough spare space so it has to be a very precise park up. ie, it's always in 'just about' exactly the same place. It's as level as it can be.

Re: Picture of Autohomes ZIG unit.
AngeloEvs. Thanks for reply. Firstly: Sorry it took so long for me to reply to your message. Been so busy at work! It's definitely a battery condition gauge/indicator because it says so on the face of it. I see what you mean though. I wonder if there was a fault in the Zig wiring and this was fitted...

Re: Quiet engine?
God knows!!! I took it to my sons garage and just told him to do an oil and filter change, using VW recommended oil. It won't have been a cheap supermarket oil.Ant-t wrote:What oil have you got in it?

Re: Lining the Hightop
Sanding will be a nightmare. You'd have more success using a solvent then scraping it off. There would be a problem with the fumes though! I think the best way if you wanted wood up there would be to get some veneer and glue that on top of the existing ply. Just my opinion.

Quiet engine?
My van has been stood for nearly 2 weeks. I went to start it today, expecting the dreaded tappet rattle. Surprise, surprise. Very quiet and ran so smoothly. Strange how sometimes it rattles after a few days of being stood, and yet nearly a fortnight this time and it didn't rattle at all. I'm beginni...

Re: Picture of Autohomes ZIG unit.
This is the pic I tried to upload earlier. Hope you can see it now. It's the small gauge just under the plug socket I can't get to work. The lights on the facia of the Zig Unit are, I think, working OK. https://www.flickr.com/photos/55814102@N06/36268869065/in/dateposted-public/" onclick="...

Re: Cylinder head bolt
Have you tried soaking the bolt and area in a good quality penetrating oil. If you can make up a sort of reservoir out of plasticine or similar you should be able to give it a good 'steeping'. When you do get it to move try a half turn out and quarter turn in removal. This should help prevent any th...

Re: Cylinder head bolt
My only advice to you is to get someone else to do the job for you. If you don't know the importance of using the correct torque setting for tightening the head bolts down then I suggest you should gain more experience before attempting the job. It sounds as though you are part way through anyway bu...
