Back a few years now I asked Marcus @mercdoctor about doing this.
He said pop by and within minutes he had jacked it up whipped off the nut and bolt on the bottom of the shocker and changed the standard length spring.
Wouldn't take a penny.

More importantly and I don't doubt this is the case here you need to make sure that the length has enough room for the sliding door to go all the way to the end of the track. (Unless you carry a short offcut of broom handle... ask me how I know... :-) ) Particularly with this offering consideration ...
Also be aware, those threaded bars do snap.
Hopefully it should only drop a little but it don't arf make you jump.
I've taken to using a small bottle jack under the suspension arms now with appropriate wooden packers.
By far the easiest way to fit the snow chains.

Maybe the bonding is coming away or worse case scenario rust is eating away the roof behind the poptop.
I'd definitely be checking.
Pop out the interior light over the driver door and inspect the cavity.

Lifted from the Glastonbury thread.
Perhaps this might be the problem I'm having.

Your fuel pump might be past its best, eg if its one-way valves are not sealing. A good one will hold fuel up for ages.
2L 1980 Aircooled stock engine and system. Did read the Wiki post that's up. Odd situation, petrol will drip off bottom of engine on initial start up after not being used for a few days. Does take a bit of cranking to start up. After a very short time, maybe 2 or 3 minutes with stop and start it won...
I admit I know absolutely nowt to help you with your problem but I must commend you on what's probably the most informed question for help I've seen.
Cheers Andy
I used to have a lot of trouble on a 1981 slider lock.
I found that the screw holding the outside handle was working loose.
If I remember right it could be tightened too much and stopped it turning.
In the end I put a hole in the card so it can be tightened whenever.

After a bit of a to do trying to source some repair kits for my early Teves calipers I was informed of this company (about 5 mins from my door   ) https://www.brakecalipersolutions.com https://m.facebook.com/brakes4u/ Very handy and a very nice/knowledgeable person to deal with. Less tha...
Confused over which calipers I have and the difference if any in the repair kits. These are not the original calipers. I think I have Teves as Haynes says that the pad pins knock out into the wheel arch. And the pistons have indents but no matching shapes on the back of the pads, problem? Bigger di...
Also,as far as I understand it, the spring is only there to pull on the end of the cable.
This allows the cable to return regardless of the arm position.
