Re: No power to coil
Just to give an update. Long story short, I traced all the wires from the ignition at the front and from the coil at the back to the fuse box. The indicators worked fine and was getting 12v as I was expecting at fuse 12 thankfully but 0v at the coil. The wiring for the coil was one piece from front ...

Re: No power to coil
The ignition switch was replaced only 2 months ago so I hope it isn't duff again but I'll check it out. Thanks for the diagram and confirming the power does actually come from the fusebox. You say the power comes from the input side of the fuse box without going through a fuse? I don't quite grasp t...

No power to coil
UPDATE: if I give a direct power from the battery to the coil, the engine starts so it confirms my suspicions about a break in the power feed. However, I still have my original question about where the power to the coil for a CU engine comes from. Is it the same as the DG which was asked in a simila...

Re: CU engine - Mega low compression
Thanks. Heads have just come back from the shop (one exhaust valve, couple of guides, and a thread insert) so ring gaskets on order for refitment this week I hope. I've read a lot of threads on the merits on calculating compression ratios on a rebuild but as I'm just replacing like for like on what ...

Re: CU engine - Mega low compression
I've removed both cylinder heads from the engine for valve work and I notice that they have metal ring head gaskets for each of the four cylinders. I thought this was just for watercooled engines, not the Aircooled one. When I removed the gaskets, 2 of them had impressions showing they were deformed...

Re: CU engine - Mega low compression
Today I managed to get the head off but the cylinders were firmly attached so, taking it all off in a oner, i used the rubber mallet to break the seal but for reasons I still don't understand, the rubber mallet broke cylinder 1 barrel. D'oh! Hopefully, I can buy one cylinder rather than four? Any id...

Re: CU engine - Mega low compression
Yup seems standard and the engine runs and idles away fine although it is massively down on power. I did wonder if the lack of use has caused a valve to stick so I was thinking about letting it run for while. Might this unstick a valve? I will have a look at the valve clearances but I was obviously ...

CU engine - Mega low compression
Hi folks. I did a compression test on my air cooled van earlier tonight and to my surprise my readings were : Cyl 1 - 10 -15psi Cyl 2 - 110 psi Cyl 3 - 80 psi Cyl 4 - 110 psi The engine was cold and put a few drops of oil into cylinders 1 & 3 to see if they would increase but they didn't. which ...

Re: T25 poor performance, ign timing moving, 2.0 a/c - CU engine
Thanks for the directions ermie571 :ok Sarran, thanks for dropping by. Just spent the last couple of days watching some of your vids. I think its fair to say you might know a thing or two about aircooleds. I'm going to watch your dizzie vid tonight to see what I can pick up but what's on my list to ...

T25 poor performance, ign timing moving, 2.0 a/c - CU engine
Hi folks. Unfortunately, i don't have a nearby VW mechanic who'll touch an Aircooled so I am hoping for the assistance of you gents. I got this RHD, electronic ignition, pop-top, westfalia conversion van in about September '16 and the performance has been poor since day 1. On the flat open road, it ...
