Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

Iโ€™ve been in correspondence with Mark Pluygers of Dream-Drive in the Netherlands with a view to the most cost effective way to gain a little more torque and power for my 1.9DG T25. His view, which Iโ€™m going to discuss with him next week before he goes on holiday is to upgrade to a 2.1 MV or DJ whil...

Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

I'll get to work on my spreadsheet of parts needed Vs parts available and maybe that will help others in this situation. It's about the journey not the destination ๐Ÿ˜‚ Didn't there used to be a version of etka still lurking in the depths of the internet? Would that list part numbers going back to cove...

Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

I'm not doing this for financial reasons. Me and my bus have been together a long time, I've got another, bigger, more economical, more impressive campervan (old ambulance conversion) which is what we use but this van was my first love so at (almost) any cost she has to be saved. What that saving lo...

Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

Ok so I got impatient and decided to split the case anyway just to clean it and put it back together ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ well the can of worms is now very much open and wriggling towards my wallet. I've updated my photo album with 20+ more shots of the inside of the crank case. Looks like the camshaft is shot so th...

Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

It's got a pierburg carb on it. So with all that's now become known from this thread about what engine I might or might not have, what should I do about my excessive endfloat? Remove the rear main seal and look to shim it or do I need to split the case and look at lower end bearings?

Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

Continued thanks and everlasting gratitude for any and all advice, we are working our way though a mystery I didn't even know I had until I posted here lol. So I have measured the stroke from a datum (radiator bracket) spanning the crankcase and measured down to the top of the con rod at tdc and BDC...

Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

But if I have mv/ss pistons is that going to mean I've got a 2.1? The displacement is only for my own understanding, the bit where it matters is can/should I adjust the endfloat with washers or do I need to split the case and look for the cause of excessive endfloat inside the crank case?

Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

That is very helpful thank you! So does this mean I have a 1.9 engine? Does the engine code on the block mean nothing? Where do I go from here lol. I ordered piston rings for a DJ engine which appear to fit, will they be ok? I used to think I had a dg engine, can't remember where I got that info, po...

Re: Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

I bought the van as a 1.9 and until I saw DJ stamped on the front of the engine i assumed it was so! Here are a few pics I've taken so far and you're right working out what engine I've got is probably a good first step lol! https://photos.app.goo.gl/RpJY68WpV4haJTbD9 This is a public Google photo al...

Adjust crankshaft endfloat or full rebuild?

First attempt at a "rebuild" for me on my 1990 2.1 DJ engine. I have the engine on the stand, heads off and pistons out and I'm trying to decide if I need to crack the case open or not. The van was running fine all apart from excess oil in the exhaust causing an MOT fail and a pretty patte...

Re: HELP PLEASE, carburettor

I just had a carb rebuild kit from a fleabay seller called Brickparts-UK for my Pierburg 2E carb, not at all impressed as it said it was to come with instructions but the only instructions included were on float levelling. After taking my carb apart and changing what I could work out myself I was st...
