Re: JX Main Bearings
Having consulted a few knowledgeable people and also the Bentley it seems that this is definitely wrong and the grooved shell should only be in the block and not the cap. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the low oil pressure as I have also found out that the oil pump seems badly worn (th...

Re: JX Main Bearings
Cheers, the intermediate shaft doesn't appear to have any play but obviously its very difficult to properly assess this with the engine still in the vehicle. I will probably end up dropping the engine so will replace the shaft bearings at that time. I don't really have any history on the van but the...

JX Main Bearings
I have been investigating my low oil pressure on the van and as I had the sump off anyway, I thought I'd pull a couple of rod and main bearing to see what sort of condition these were in. Can anyone tell me if the below is correct? This is the No.4 main bearing cap. All of the other mains had a smoo...

Re: Inner sill replacement
Cheers adie. I thought that must be the case but didn't want to start lopping bits off that I didn't have to. The B pillar looks good to me so I'll chop off the end of the outrigger and then replace it once the sill is welded into position.

Re: Inner sill replacement
Rain stopped play on the weekend but I did manage to get back onto the van tonight. Now I might be missing a trick here but I can't really see a way of getting the sill out without cutting either the b pillar or the outrigger. I guess if I chopped the bits out in small pieces it may be possible but ...

Re: Inner sill replacement
Cheers for the help/pics they explain a lot. I was wondering if it was possible to remove the sill whilst leaving the outrigger in one piece (your pics clearly show it is) as I've noticed a lot of people seem to cut the end off. I'm guessing this just makes the job a bit easier/quicker? My only othe...

Inner sill replacement
Hi all, first post in a while. Having just been made redundant I find myself with some time on my hands and have decided its time to get the van back on the road and sort out some of the bodywork issues (every cloud and all that). I'm fairly handy with the spanners but have never done any bodywork i...

Re: JX crank pulley
Thanks for the reply. Brickwerks offer two pulleys. A single one and a double for vans with power steering (but this has the small pulley on the outside). I have scoured the Internet but have yet to see a jx with a pulley like mine which is is why I suspect it isn't the correct one. Unfortunately I ...

JX crank pulley
I have been aware that my crank pulley has quite a wobble to it when spinning. I never thought too much about it until I started reading horror stories of crank bolts coming loose and mashing up the gear. This prompted me to take the thing off and thankfully (I think) it appears that the outer pulle...

Re: JX cambelt tension
Cheers Martin. I have the van back up and running now with the belt tension set as in my previous post. This seems to work well and I've run it with he timing cover off and it's not flapping all over the place. I will however see what it's like when the engine is hot, as per our advice.

JX cambelt tension
I've have just replaced the head on my JX and am putting a new belt and tensioner on whilst it's relatively accessible. I don't have the special tool to check the belt tension but was wondering whether there is a rule of thumb people use to get the tension about right? I have currently tensioned it ...

I'd say within 30 seconds the liquid had turned completely yellow.

Re: JX Dalek cap??
I bought one of those cheep block testing kits off ebay (exactly the same as the picture) and it too blew all the fluid straight out of the top. I managed to get it to work by holding it in place over the expansion tank so some of the gases passed through the tester and some could escape around the ...
