Re: Head gasket replacement
Hi. The van seems to be running well enough but is using a fair bit of oil so I’m not convinced I have permanently fixed it. At least it is not pressurising the coolant. I still have to do the final 90 deg on the head bolts. All in all it’s been a worthwhile exercise and has only cost me time and th...

Re: Head gasket replacement
OK, the head is cleaned up and everything is now back together. The van seems to be running well enough on a short test run round the block. Temperature stable and no pressure in the cooling system. Need to check it's properly bled now then do the miles before the final head bolt tighten. Thanks for...

Re: Head gasket replacement
I used a bit of brake cleaner to get the oily stuff off then a plastic scraper and a fine scotch brite type pad.
Don’t want to be too aggressive but also appreciate some elbow grease is probably needed.

Re: Head gasket replacement - Update - Head now removed.
Hi All, I decided to have a go at this myself. I've taken the head off and there is a build up of crap at the last piston and it looks like this is where my gasket leak was. I've cleaned the head up a bit and it seems to be measuring flat which is good news. No cracks visible anywhere. There are a f...

Re: Head gasket replacement
Thanks Aiden, I'll give that a try. Do you think it's worth checking the head bolts are up to torque?

Hi, yes it was, the head was re-tightened probably about 900 miles afterwards.

Head gasket replacement
Hi All, I am looking for a recommendation for someone who can properly diagnose and then repair a suspected head gasket leak on my 1.6TD JX. I had the head replaced about 5000 miles ago along with radiator and waterpump. All was fine for about a year however I've recently noticed gas bubbling into t...

Re: Eberspacher D2L Troubleshooting
Took it off again and the combustion chamber is full of unburnt diesel, I can pour it out of the exhaust air intake and fuel pipe. The 100 degree switch is working when tested with a separate heat source and when I measure the temperature near the sensor it gets hot from the glow plug running. Seems...

Re: Eberspacher D2L Troubleshooting
So, I'm back to square one with this now. I ordered a fuel filter and while waiting connected everything back up properly. Now with the the new pump filter installed I have the same problem where the heater runs for the 3 1/2 minutes and then cuts out. Not sure what to do now, the only time it ran ...

Re: Eberspacher D2L Troubleshooting
Right, I took the filter out of the pump and gave it a clean / blow through and put it back. The heater fired up on the second attempt. It was a bit smoky while heating up but after the 3 & 1/2 minutes as it ran up the fan speeds and started kicking out heat the smoke reduced and it is now runni...

Re: Eberspacher D2L Troubleshooting
Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Oldiebut goodie, when I measured that 11.2 voltage it was at the silver control unit as I was checking the fuel supply. This was as it was drawings the current for starting, the glow phase from your extract in your post. It dropped to 11.2 and then ticked to 11.19 as...

Eberspacher D2L Troubleshooting
Hi Eberspachers experts. I'm looking for a bit of help getting my Eberspacher working reliably. Its a D2L model factory fitted to a 1989 Westy. The symptoms: I turn on the heater and the fan runs for 30 seconds then the fuel pump starts ticking. It runs and smokes a bit, roughly 3mins 20 secs or so ...

Re: Fiamma 3 bike rack
I've got 3 thick frame mountain bikes which go on (and then a wee one ratchet strapped) but I have moved clamp no 1 to one of the vertical rails (to seat post) which lets yo get the first bike a wee bit closer to the van.
