don't forget that evaporator fridges don't have thermostat control on 12v so it is not ideal to run them long term on 12v. If you don't have the fridge yet consider getting a 3 way rather than a 2 way. (Or a 12v compressor)

it is worth getting an adaptor but you may not need it. I would say I have only needed one on about 20% of the French sites I have been on.

OK problem was the wrong word. :D

So many people overlook the fact that bigger inverters need bigger wires and bigger batteries. I keep seeing posts by people wanting big inverters expecting them to run from the cigarette lighter.

That highlights a problem with invertors. 550w is only about 2 amps at mains voltage - pretty insignificant - but is nearly 50 amps at 12v and after invertor losses could well be over 50 Amps. If you intend to run something much more than 500w you are going to need BIG cables (and lots of AHrs in yo...

JK certainly do them but there are 2 different types depending on the fitting at the speedo end. One clips on, the other has a knurled knob. Check what type ypu need before ordering.

Almost forgot - its been said above but mine had just pulled out of the hub as the circlip was missing.

just a thought..... if your wire goes to the negative is it possible somebody has fitted a 24v heater? It is not an elegant solution and less than ideal for subsequent owners. Without seeing what you've got I would very carefully trace every wire and draw your own circuit diagram or rip it all out a...

the wires coming off 30 & 87 should go to the +ve terminals of each battery. The -ve terminals should have a connection to the chassis. The fuse in the relay protects the relay terminals but a fuse near each positive is still recommended in case either of those wires get chafed through and make ...

one plumbing diagram..... [IMG:500:612]http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l168/dbroada/bits/SplitCharge.jpg[/img] pins 85/86 are the coil. 1 side should go to chassis, the other should only have 12v on it when the engine is running. you should see similar voltages on pins 30/87 when the engine is off...

agree with him ^. Sounds like its working as designed. The thermostat is there to enable the engine to get up to working temperature with a smaller volume of coolant. Once the engine is at working temp the thermostat opens and the rest of the coolant is introduced. Without the thermostat you just ha...

are your earth straps good and healthy? The water cooled has one going from the engine to the chassis underneath near an engine mount (if I remember correctly). Mine was so badly corroded it was reducing the current flow at the starter. Cleaning the area gave huge gains at no cost. :D

I didn't think they were included in the MOT. Not everything fitted MUST work. I haven't had reversing lights on either my van or car for several years. However everything must be safe. There should be no sharp edges to the glass and no possibility of it falling out. Phoning the test centre first is...

OK, I've never tried - mine has problems fully charged! :D However.... State of Charge State of charge, or conversely, the depth of discharge (DOD) can be determined by measuring the voltage and/or the specific gravity of the acid with a hydrometer. This will NOT tell you how good (capacity in AH) t...

I hope it cuts in at rather more than 10v - that would be a VERY flat lead acid battery and would just about guarantee a blown split charge fuse. A fully charged battery is about 13,5v and anything below 12v can be considered flat for our purposes. If you are regularly going to discharge your batter...

Thanks though - worth knowing for on site etc.
even better then - use somebody else's electricity!
