Had the same problem with mine spent over £200 changing everthing then it was the distributor, try that or borrow one first

Yes reved it with my head over the carb
you can see the choke open, I'm sure from the way mine drove back from Germany slowing down up hills that it has never worked before I drilled out the carb

Went for a drive today did about 4 miles and then it stopped same problem went 300 meters then would cut out no response from the throttle pedal it just dies to a stop, then I have to turn it over for ages it fires up goes another 300 meters and stops I checked for a spark while it stopped it has on...

Put an electric fuel pump on & new coil runs much better so removed the electric pump and went back to the new vw one still goes :shock: been round the block 3 times about a mile each time no misfires or stopping fingers crossed it was the coil :evil: all along looks like the og bosch one fitted...

Cleaned the carb all the jets looked ok, revs up ok for ages ticks over then just stops and takes ages to start again then runs fine, occasional slight misfire/cough then stops, the fuel filter is full, : fuel starvation to me, fuel pump still not delivering. Would you believe it its done the same thing again been running fine then started to miss a few times, hesitates when I put my foot down if I change down a gear seemed to clear and rev and go ok, then nothing just dies to a stop, turns over for ages then fires goes half a mile then stops again :evil...

Pleased to report in, its runs & revs up not sure what it was for anybody else that has the same problem, but for reference I removed the thin filter in the brass intake pipe on the carb [you can't see it its inside] got a pierberg rebuild kit for the carb, new rod that pushes the fuel pump, new...

Yes its got a realy strong spark, tried a spark plug in, but might give it a try when it wont start on the key again
