Re: Eberspacher BA6 Project

Watch you don't put too much voltage through a glow plug when testing - some 12v ones run on 8v. Ooo....interesting, didn't realise that - thanks for the heads up. I'm working my way through the BA6 manual checking stuff and it suggests 12v....so I hooked it up to check. https://i.imgur.com/rISrSUS...

Re: Eberspacher BA6 Project

That was going to happen for last Xmas! Ha! Yeah, banged to rights there....! I renovated the combustion motor, checked the fuel pump, temp sensor and the glow plug. Stuck it all in a box and then life and trying to keep a van on the road got in the way...... Proof that the glow plug at least glows...

Re: Eberspacher BA6 Project

Reviving a thread from the dead! Thought I'd update this with some progress in case it helps other people wanting to renovate/ install one of these heaters. I recently acquired a second heater assembly - with more of the ducting and wiring than I have with the other setup - the hope being that betwe...

Re: Eberspacher BA6 Project

I have a couple of these if you need parts or if you get good at fixing them you could maybe make one good one out of the two I have, one is complete I think, the other less so, I've never had the time to spend on trying to get one to work, I binned some of the pipework because it was manky and the...

Eberspacher BA6 Project

A new project that I've acquired via club80-90 (cheers Steve!) is an Eberspacher BA6 underslung petrol heater. Advertised as non running it seemed like a good sub project to get my teeth into (after I'd identified it from Steve's photos) as I've wanted a heater for winter camping for a while now. Ju...

Well that's royally f'ked it......thanks Photobucket. $400 a year to fix all those broken links.........I guess that's what happens when you rely on a "free" service. :x

Re: 2.1 WBX engine rebuild noob....

Bugger......no insert on my crank! I'm guessing it should have one to keep the felt washer in place? (I assume it goes in after fitment of the felt washer?)

Image

I'll have to get hold of one.....or get one made.......

Re: 2.1 WBX engine rebuild noob....

does that flywheel have the insert to hold the felt ring? thought about it but didn't offset the upper and lower oil scraper parts in mine in the end, where did you read that? There's only a plain bore for the felt washer to sit in on this flywheel (I assume it just presses in and butts up to the n...

Re: 2.1 WBX engine rebuild noob....

Turned my attention to the pistons/liners.... Measured the new QSC liners to see what size they are. Borrowed a bore mic from the machine shop we now have at work - it was an imperial mic so had to convert. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y259/sherly205/File_000%2088.jpeg http://i7.photobucket.com/...

Re: 2.1 WBX engine rebuild noob....

Just a thought to add to this, due to the cam gear teeth being at an angle ( not straight cut) I always find that you get more end float if the crankshaft is allowed to rotate, if it is not allowed to do this the end float is reduced due to friction on the gear teeth. I have always twisted and push...

Re: Warning Elring WBX gaskets sets

That's quite a messy splitline on the left hand gaskets. Says a lot for the quality of the tooling......and makes you question the quality of the materials used. We design plastic mouldings at work and have dealt with some exceptional quality toolmakers in China.......and unfortunately some excepti...

Re: 2.1 WBX engine rebuild noob....

Hang on.... Can we assume you have left the larger 0.4 shim in place I fit shims and measure whats left I never remove them all and measure if it binds up then remove just one shim and measure I do mag base on flywheel pointer to the gearbox stud and bracket to stop flywheel rotating. Do you have a...

Re: 2.1 WBX engine rebuild noob....

Try it again with a bit more wellie or take a smidge off the thrust washer with fine wet and dry on a sheet of glass Think I'll be doing this! Rechecked the setup yesterday and it looks like I'm at 0.63 end float (without the shims). I set the dti up with the mag base attached to the flywheel and t...

Re: 2.1 WBX engine rebuild noob....

Mounted the outer thrust washer, the dia81 shim and the flywheel so I could check the crank endfloat. DTI on mag base mounted to some steel angle strip - pull flywheel back and forth and measure the movement. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y259/sherly205/File_002%2030.jpeg 0.67mm movement recorded...
